Ever caught a Foul Ball/Home Run barehanded at a Major League Game........

I've caught 5. One in Oakland, One in Texas and 3 at Comerica Park in Detroit. All 5 were foul balls

I actually dropped 3 of them and then picked up the ball. One I caught with my hands and one I caught with my hat without dropping them.

dropped a Willie McCovey homerun ball in Candlestick Park out in the right field bleachers..

I'm 16 years old 1966 then and catching the bus to the home games ..

admission was 50 cent with the milk carton cut out for bleacher seats ..

then the concrete section just over the right field chainlink fence was pretty big and the bleachers were behind us....We would wait for for homers out there game after game scratching and clawing for a ball amongst us..

So here comes the towering homer run by McCovey and I'm a in the right place at the right time ..Jump up to get my hands on it before the crowd around me can drag my arms down and I drop it..

yep...game after game I never get that one that I actually get the chance to catch it clear on the fly...I do that day and I muff it..Shame is....I had great hands ...in fact legendary quick hands in buckets and bases..but not that day...swallowed the peach...was pissed off about it a long time to..

but later went to Vero Beach [1988]...Dodgers Spring Training..I now have a very nice collection of signed baseballs..the best of course #32

No Pepper caught one on the fly at Busch where they give you an Honorary Member of Cardinals Certificate (provided you catch it on the fly). Pretty cool...

Off Larkin. Stood up. Set my beer down. Put my hands up and caught it like herman Moore. Never took a step.

Usher took my name and address and got a cool certificate in the mail signed by Joe Torre.

1 - Caught a Soriano foul behind home plate barehanded in '01 at Yankee Stadium. We were sitting just a little bit over from where the netting behind homeplate protects the crowd. Pop up foul that took a mean hop maybe 10 rows in front of us. I had to lean over the tunnel area next to my seat to catch it one-handed, with a ballpark sausage on my lap (it survived and I ate it).

2 - A year later, also at Yankee stadium, I was sitting in foul territory along the first base line, fairly close to the foul pole and watching BP. Liner comes screaming towards us - looked like it was going straight for my head at one point (frightening), but it kept bending towards foul territory - I had to lean back with my left hand to try to catch it. Hit my hand right smack in the middle, but wasn't able to hang on. I ended up using the cool beer cup I had and then some ice from a soda later to relieve the soreness. That shit hurt. Not a catch, but I knocked that liner down.

I love how when you catch a ball a mother always comes up asking for it for her kid. And then if you say no they offer to buy it. Like that is the kind of memory your kid would love to have of getting his first fly ball at a major league game

Vanished into vortex
All of this happened in the same game:

1. Marvell Wynne threw me a baseball during warm ups.
2. Still during warm ups went to get something to drink and came back to find a random BP home run sitting on my seat.
3. Had my hand on a HR by Carmelo Martinez (I think), but didn't catch it.
4. Got flipped off by John Kruk during the game.
