I think that's the opening scene. The movie is in reverse chronological order a la Momento. I've never seen the whole thing but had seen that scene and the rape scene. Pretty raw.

I am surprised that is was banned in New Zealand though, since one of their most famous directors, Peter Jackson, did some very low budget films that were full of horrifying scenes...before he hit the big time with the Rings trilogy.

The guy that had his arm snapped in half had a girlfriend that was brutally, brutally raped and beaten. Him and his buddy (the guy with the fire extinguisher) thought the guy that had his head bashed in was the rapist, and were looking for revenge. Although it turns out that he wasn't actually the rapist (the guy that is seen smiling at the end of the youtube clip was), based on that short clip it doesn't appear society was hurt by him being killed.
