Last year I got involved in a 30+ year old baseball league. I'm 39 and I'm the youngest guy on the team.
We got an left hand pitcher thats 63 and he's got an awsome curveball.

Everybody on the team has a pulled hamstring. (myself inluded)

Defensively, I'm still pretty stellar at shortstop but its a fu*king demanding position and theres too much running involved.
Hitting is a different story. I can hit a fastball up to 80 mphs but those damn curveballs are a bitch. Its like swinging at a fly with a chopsick.

Ok back to the question: I was a great baseball player as a youngster but I got bad grades when I was 14 and my parents wouldn't let me play that year and I've never played again until now. I played and excelled at other sports throughout highschool but thats about it. I think with proper guidence I could have played at a higher level but anyone thats ever played comptetive sports knows how extremely difficult it really is to be a professional athelete.

While the football game is going on on the field, me and my friend were athletes in paper football flicking it across the bleaches between my friend's fingers used as goal posts. That's as far of an athlete I am.

I played for the Ontario Jr. team 2 years 15-16 yrs. old....but then I fractured my hip playing tightend on my high school football team.....all I got out of that sport was pain in the winters....ugh. And that was the end of any serious ball. Now I play in a beer league....but I did get 2 free trips to Cuba

Was soccer-mad from ages 5 to 17 before work, partying and delicious young women ruined my career ...

Played for New Zealand at under-14 and under-16 level.

Still play socially but going to work as a sportswriter when I left school meant no chance of playing at the weekends; end of serious career aspirations playing-wise

I played football from 5th grade thru high school. I wrestled 5 th thru high school I wrestled heavy wieght my senior year at 205 (the max was 275) I went 21 and 6 made to 4 th place at sectionals. I was always wrestling guys at least 30 to 50 pounds more than me but I was much quicker than most. Played a little basball in the summers. I gave that up to lift wieghts and drink more beer. Could have played college ball or westled at a very very small school but went to chefs school instead.

Did not play Pro sports, but played all thru HS and some college. I did work as a Professional baseball umpire for 7 years, made it to AAA before calling quits due to some personal family problems.

Still have good friends involved at the minor league level (administration) and Major League level (Umpires on the field)

When I was managing a bar/restaurant I made more money throwing darts than I did with my job. Would that count as being professional?

I worked in 70's with my first year in 1971 working the Fla St League.

Also worked a stint in the Interamerican league in 1979 in So America, Dominican, Puerto Rico and Panama with Miami the only US city.

1984-86 supervisor/observer in the Pacific Coast League.

Can't say that I remember a Tony Maynor.

I was always connected with the other school, when I started it was Barney Deary's umpire development and in 84 it was Joe Brinkman's school. Anyway if he worked in the PCL in 84 I should know him because i wrote evaluations on evry umpire in the laeague that was there for that year and I still don't recall that name. Maybe getting to old. LOL

Yea I remember the chicken and rice, I hope you didn't eat it off the carts out in front of the stadium boy that was some nasty stuff and how about the plantas and tripe, what an experience.

Boy you must have been a real redass thrown out by the same guy 5 times, lucky you weren't around when I worked you would probably still be paying the fines.

he might of got out in 82 or 83 or he was really forced out he was on the blackball list, never knew why but he always held a grudge to the system after that, but i am sure there had to be a reason why.
angel only throw me out 3 times as a player the other two were as a coach against miami,he would always do all there home games for the first month to get ready for spring training, most of the time it was over strikes i was a catcher. and if i was at bat and had i pitch that my guy didnot get more then once and i would get it called against i would say one of the magic words or statements that is auto, you know them all
biggrin.gif

hell i was to afriad to eat any other meat, thought they might of been someons dog.
small world,i will never forget my winter there, the thing that got me was the voodoo guy that would do his dance and shake the thing with bells and stuff between innings to bless the home team and shit, the fans there go nuts. its something i will always remember.
good to talk to you maybe you will get out here someday,i would enjoy that.
