Bluegrass!
I watched the preview for it today on HBO. Showed how Yankee stadium was created and did interviews with all the actors and the producer Billy Crystal. It was quite amazing how they turned the Detroit Tiger stadium into the Yankee's stadium. Was also amazed at how much the actors that played Maris and Mantle looked like them.

The Maris actor actually had never picked up a baseball his whole life. The day of his interview, Crystal said he put down baseball experience as one of his abilities. Crystal said he fibbed big time! Reggie Smith was brought in to teach him how to hit and catch the ball....

Neemer what helped me like it was. I was 19 years old when it happen. I can still remember some of the write ups and some TV games of the week. I did see it on TV live. The show had it down very close. They will have it as a rental in about 1 month. You like baseball you will like this film.

oh,i remember that one:

mantle and maris, both fighting to bat 3rd instead of 4th, maris smoking in the dugout in between innings. the bad boys going out drinking and raising hell...martin, ford, mantle. maris having that right field wall adjusted in right at the foul line. seems like he hit a third of them in that spot.

i'll be looking forward to the movie.

Just what we need -- another sports movie with a New York team as the central focus.

I used to get all misty-eyed watching the documentaries and mini-dramas on Joe DiMaggio, Jackie Robinson, Mickey Mantle, etc. and everyone connected to the Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers. You can't turn on ESPN's "Sports Century" without seeing a player from one of the old New York teams.

But, it's really getting old. How about paying some attention to sports heroes and teams in other cities? Aren't there sporting events played outside of New York?

PeP a lot of folks don't know the real beer drinker Babe. Had a stadium that was 4 feet shorter then the M & M guys did. No matter I just liked it because a little of the kid in me could remember. Nolan I agree. Seems it's up to those teams and markets to bring forward others. Not the Yanks fault. Strange thing is I do not follow or pull for any N Y team. Much like Dallas in F B can't stand them. Love it every time my Packers beat them. How ever over all I love sports. The film has nice touch.

you are right, but......as much as i agree, why are the yankees worth x number of times more than most teams? forget about the u.s., you go to most foreign countries and ask baseball fans which is their favorite major league team, and 9 out of 10 will say the yankees. mexico may be an exception, identifying more with l.a.

this also fits right in with the new cities' teams not getting any fan support, etc., there is no tradition that your dad or uncle can relate to you. that is why there will always be baseball in new york, and to a lesser extent in chicago, detroit, cleveland, cinci, etc. there is a historial, heroes going back to the 40's or earlier, etc. even so, some memories are erased, like the old milwaukee braves. what a great repertoire of mostly hitters went through that team. now that original team is not even in milwaukee, is it?

when we think of the great players, legends, etc., which teams do we usually end up talking about? don't we usually start with the yankees?

heck, i relate a lot with the old washington senators, and then the twins, but only because most cuban players ended up playing there first. yet, how commercial would that be for a movie? not much, i am afraid.

i think this is one of the reasons why there are so many sports talk shows, these arguments will never end.

I agree with Nolan boen and raised in Chicago I am a die hard fan of Chicago sports. I now live in Florida with more than half of the people living in Florida from New York. I am sick of hearing how great New York teams are, were and going to be. jmho
