Hedge just regurgitates other talking points he hears - over and over again no matter how many times they're proven wrong. He certainly has no interest in changing his opinion based on facts.
He'll be along shortly to say that if Obama was still president the liberal media would cover it up for him just like they did with H1N1 - despite the fact that 1) H1N1 was a headline story literally for months; 2) it had a fatality rate of .01-.03% (as opposed to the 2-3% that corona has); and 3) we already have 50% more confirmed deaths worldwide than H1N1 had total, despite that occurring over 21 months and we're only 3 months into this one.
But, you know - facts are hard and require independent thought to process. Better to just blame everything on Democrats and the liberal media so you can maintain your narrow world view.

Additionally, CDC estimated that 151,700-575,400 people worldwide died from (H1N1)pdm09 virus infection during the first year the virus circulated.
From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.
Not disputing those numbers but I was specifically comparing confirmed deaths. The last update (in May 2010) from the WHO on confirmed deaths from H1N1 was 18,036. I was using the corona confirmed deaths from worldometers (26,098) but for consistency I should probably use the official WHO numbers, which are 23,335. So that's "only" 30% more confirmed deaths.
Its the fucking flu, 30-50 thousand die each year from seasonal flu, are we going to shut down each flu season going forward? There is more behind this Chinese flu, the liberal media has blown it way out of proportion, they want this country to fail, as long as Trump is gone that?s all they want. When Obama was in office the media was on his side so he covered up the pig flu with their help, why didn?t the country shut down for that pandemic? the news media is in bed with the democrats

As I and countless others have already tried to educate you - nothing about the H1N1 was covered up. Literally a front-page story for months. The fact that you chose to have your head in the sand about it doesn't change that fact.
Why aren't we treating it like the flu? Because it's not the flu! The flu carries a .1% fatality rate. The best case scenario of covid-19 is 1.4% fatality and it may be as high as 3%. So - best case scenario - it's 14 times deadlier. Covid also stays alive on surfaces for far longer - which makes it far more contagious. Thus far, unlike the flu it was shown 0 signs that it's actually seasonal. Those flu deaths you mention occur spread out throughout the season - they don't rise exponentially and overwhelm the medical system all at once. To maintain the low 1.4-3% fatality rate - that assumes that all the serious cases requiring medical care can actually get it. Look at Italy (you won't) - they were running at ~3% fatality rate and in the last week it's now spiked to over 10% because they don't have enough hospital beds and ventilators.
If this is the "liberal media blowing it out of proportion" please feel free to explain any of the following:
- How did they convince Asia and almost all of Europe to completely shut down as well?
- Why did Trump ("the best President in my lifetime" according to you) just invoke the Defense Production Act to force GM to make ventilators?
- Why is Fox News reporting that "In a worst-case scenario, without serious mitigation efforts, hospital beds in the U.S. could be full by April and 2.2 million Americans could die of the virus ? not to mention those who would die of other ailments because they couldn?t get medical care"?
- Trump's approval ratings have gone up since the outbreak. So their plan was to hurt Trump by causing a national emergency which almost always has the effect of making people rally around the President?
BTW, not a fan of Fox News but intentionally chose only their reports so you can't claim I was giving you "liberal biased" sources.
1- That is the exact wrong mentality - that "I" will survive it. It isn't about how one individual does with it. It's about the chain of infection each person causes that eventually results in the deaths of vulnerable people.
2 - How old are you Hedge? 'Cause a completely healthy 44-year-old in New Braunfels (that's your state) just died from it. No underlying conditions, didn't smoke and didn't drink. Yes, older Americans are more at risk but NO ONE is immune.
