Article in Austin Statesman Sports section today was " Heisman Race".. Beck Georgia,Gabreil Oregon ,Sanders Colorado Gordon rb from OK st and a few more and I looked for one person and he made the Statemans top 10 contenders. Cameron Ward of Miami. I have told this story before so skip if you already heard it. I have season tickets to Texas State since I live in south Austin and buy an end zone seat and then sit on the 50 yd line in row 12. Or basically anywhere where I want. Its a beautiful stadium and although they play in the Sun Conference there is no crowd, no traffic and get to enjoy a D-1 football game on saturdays.
A few years ago Texas St is playing Incarnate Word . I have seen the road sign on the interstate going to UTSA basketball games. It is D-1 and a catholic college in San Antonio Never knew there was a catholic college that plays football in Texas.
As a enter the Bobcats staduim the Tex st fans have signs all over. " who is Incarnate Word". How can Tex st put this reform school on the schedule when the following week they are playing Baylor. I take my seat in row 12 right near the Incarnate bench and a father and mother are sitting a row next to me. I'm watching a 6'5 black qb warm up and he looks amazing with his throws The father sitting next to me after I ask him what is the name of that qb in front of us. He says Cameron Ward . He tell me " you don't know him"? He then tells me he has D-2 or D-3 records in passing touchdowns and led the nation in passing offense. I'm watching this kid warm up and he is throwing darts at his receivers looking like he has unbelievable arm strength. The father tells me about this catholic school run by the nuns and Tex state is there biggest opponent . The fans around me are making fun of Incarnate Word and many also have never heard of it. The dad tells me tex St is in trouble this afternoon . I think I have Tex St -9 or -10 . Anyway the game starts and this qb is a force Tall at 6'5 quick release and has running ability. I have to go and babysit but Ward throws for 3 or 4 tds and Incarnate Word beats Tex St 34-24. Incarnate blows out Tex St and Cameron is a sensation . There isn't a better qb in the B-12 and this kid is unreal Back later to finish this My bad He transferred to Wash St last year and broke a few Pac 10 passing records Now he plays for Miami and is listed as a Heisman contender
