Hockey season will be here soon and i'm already working on it.
Anyone on some special stats.
Couldn't we share some work out here.

I'm thinking about some of you who like the pen box, i just feel we could share the work on some teams on wich the info can be get from the local papers.

In my aera i'm thinking about Mtl and Ottawa but i'm shure we could get more info accross if many of us were focussing on a few team.

I've been working on some stats since the end of the year but i wouldn't mind specialising my search and study on a few area for the start of next year if we can work something out as a group.

Looking foward to some reply.
In the past years i have work a lot whit the matchups using the gf/ga results and have i have cumulated some good info and trends.

Merde

Sorry I've just post some of the worthless stats available and deleted the whole thing to not confuse anyone.

You know Frog? What the heck.. I'm gonna re-post the whole thing. I kept it on a file just in case.

And before I explain why the following stats don't worth any crap, I'll let you figure out what might be the reason(s). I know what the main reason is and I'm sure you can "suppose" why now that I said that it's no good. The following is a good example of a "too quick" conclusion... or "bad trend".. Learn by your errors...:

Here's something that might interest you..

I was looking at my database this afternoon and realized that I recorded the attendance for each and every game last year without doing anything with it.

I thought about a team for which the attendance might have an impact: the mysterious New Jersey Devils immediatly came in my mind. Like I said a number of times last year, this team tends to play better on the road, when the crowd is quiet. So I said to myself.. same thing should apply at home. The fewer the crowd, the fewer the noise, the more focussed they are on their D-system, therefore the better they'll play. Well guess what... I was right!!

Note that this is just an example and I'll do some work for the other teams eventually as well.

Games in New Jersey (regular season):

-------------------------------------------
When the attendance is HIGHER than 16,000:

New Jersey is 9-4-5 (0.639), averaging 3.28 gf and 2.33 ga.

6 of their 9 wins (66%) were 2+ goals wins.

--------------------------------------------
When the attendance is LOWER than 16,000:

New Jersey is 15-7-1 (0.674), averaging 3.74 gf and 2.17 ga. That's a net gain of over half a goal!

12 of their 15 wins (80%) were 2+ goals wins.

Another interesting note: when it was sold-out in New Jersey (attendance = 19,040), the game has gone OVER the total 7 games out of 8, for an average of 7.38 goals per game.

"Handicapping the crowd" might sound a bit stupid when you first look at it, but make sure I'll consider it this year. Now the *thing* is to get the information before the game starts. That's a whole different story. If anybody out there has some interesting links it would be greatly appreciated...

See you soon puck-eaters...
