Dr,

You are the resident car expert and need some advice. My wife has a 2001 Chev Venture Van. The van has been trouble since I purchased it. I call in for service yesterday and am told that my warentee had run out on Sunday. I have been having it serviced (oil and filter at my local garage) Now they say they will not cover costs of defective parts (cup holder and trunk handle as well as a wheel bearing and wiper motor. I am stuck with this van until next April (leased and feel like not fixing anything and handing it back to them in the current shape. A buddy of mine says thery will make me pay when I bring it back next April! I have purcjhased six vehicles from this dealer and now get this service. Any suggestions!

vinny,

when you say that the warranty expired was it due to the excessive KM's or the date?

I don't have first hand knowledge in regards to LEASING, but I'm sure that after the warranty has expired you have to cover any damage/defective parts.

Wiper motor- not sure of price but to replace the motor you are looking at about 1 hour labour (estimate-dealerships). For the part anywhere from $100-$200??

Cup Holder- You can install it yourself, $30 for parts?

Trunk Handle- Not that hard to install, but it might cost a few

Wheel Bearing- How do you know that its defective? Your mechanic said so? Or does it pull to one side? Let me know how you came to this conclusion. If it is defective, it ain't that hard to replace. As long as you have a jack, tools, and jackstands...you should be ok.

All in all, if you are not able to perform any of these repairs, see if your local mechanic could give you a deal/discount since you are having them perform several services. DO NOT bring in the van after the lease is over, they will scourge your wallet.

Let me know how it goes...

Cheers

p.s. find out through your dealer if any repairs has to be done at their shop, again I am not sure what the lease agreement is, but better to be safe than sorry, especially the wheel bearing

Thanks Dr.

Went to see the dealer today and saw the sles person who I have personally bought numerous vehicles. Explained what had happened that the date of my warrenty had expired by two days. Went to see the service manager with him and explained the situation. Now the leasing company GMAC is bringing in a new deal with Gm that they will take the payments off any vehicle up to January of next year and a month after for vehicles such as the Cav. and the Ven. Van. Sales must be down. They then became helpful and asked me if I wished to shake the van and agreed they would fix the parts. Would have cost me around 1000 Canadian. All seems to be well. I will see what they come back with on price of a new vehicle although makes me want to purchase an import.

Thanks again,
