Leroy's used to be a grand old sportsbook/casino in Las Vegas-downtown. I am not even sure its there anymore. Its not the place anymore to go if it is there.
It was like "Little Caesar's" on the strip. You could literally bet anything and everything.
All the "wiseguys" used to hang there. It seemed like everyone smoked cigars. It was mecca for info 15 years ago, before computers.
Leroy's expanded into many small casinos in Vegas, Laughlin, and Mesquite. (I am not sure about Reno). Leroys would go into a small casino with no sportsbook and sublet space to give that casino a sportsbook. By computer now, all the outlets have the same line.

I am not sure there is a main Leroy's sportsbook, but if you go in a small casino, look for a closet sportsbook. chances are it is run by Leroy's.

Leroy's was (still is) just South of Freemont Street, on 3rd I believe. It's all boarded up now, sitting there with plywood nailed across the front windows. There are a couple of pawnshops next door. There was a time when sportsbooks were not allowed in the casinos, so they had to be freestanding establishments apart from the hotels. (I don't know if this was State law, or simply a business decision on the part of the casinos to not associate themselves with the pro sports leagues). This spurred Leroy's Sportsbook downtown and Churchill Downs on the South end of the Strip. There were other sportsbooks too in LV, but those are the only two I can remember personally visiting. When sportsbetting was merged in with the casinos starting with the Stardust and the Hilton which constructed seperate sports books, the small independents like Leroys and Churchill Downs saw business decline. Eventually, they dreid up. The last time I recall spending anytime inside thsoe places was back in 1986 when Churchill Downs used to be just south of Ballys where the MGM now stands. I remember the inside of those places was pretty much like the OTB palors in NYC and elsewhere -- filled with cigar smoke and people bitching and moaning about their losses.
