Went to gym weds night after working on patients all day midway through workout felt pain went home and knew I had a hernia went to md next day and confirmed have inguinall hernia and need surgery. Any you guys have it done whats down time and when can I workout again. I lift 4-5 xs a week and have been for 10+ years so really will be hard to not have that outlet for stress relief if I cant for a prolonged period. I don't go extremely heavy with the weights.

Had double hernia about a year ago. Anguinial hernia, I think they called it. After surgery, was out about 3 weeks, then back to normal. Was just advised to do what you feel comfortable doing. In other words don't set the bench press record right away. Vicodin was great. Hope all goes well.

nothing to an umbilical hernia repair with a fast recovery. I would say you could do a lot of your exercises in 2 weeks and give the abs a month to 6 weeks. Maybe not even that long. Lots of people don't even get them repaired.

ohhh. Inguinal hernia totally depends on how bad it is and how much mesh they have to put in you. Usually, it's a very routine no complication surgery with a pretty fast recovery.

Most of my experience with inguinal hernias, actually, comes from Haiti. When I've been on surgical trips there, this is one of the most common things we fix. These guys are up and out of the mission 4 hours after the surgery and back to hard labor work in 4 weeks. Hope you do well with yours! I would say since you're in such good shape already, you're recovery will be very fast.

Thanks 65 yeah I am in good shape gonna be 37 next month and don't feel it but am worried as at work I am busy and see about 50-60 pts a day and am constantly lifting them and helping them up then going home coaching and playing ball with my 3 boys 11, 10 and 7, then going to gym so a little stressed out about being down for four weeks. But what can you do I gotta get it fixed as I can't go to the gym now without experiencing pain.

I had a double hernia when I was around 5 or 6. Don't remember much except for getting some new underroos as presents and having my dad carry me up and down the stairs. ahh the good ole days.

Had the same thing done about 5 years ago, missed 3 days of work, I don't know about lifting weights but I will tell you to be careful when you sneeze, feels like you are being stabbed. Best bet is to cover the area with a pillow and apply pressure if you feel a sneeze or cough coming on, laughing is no better. It hurt more than expected the first day, but after that I recovered faster than I expected. Good luck.
