In looking for Christmas presents for my boys I starting reminscing about getting those Hess trucks/firetrucks as a kid every year.

Was this just a northeast thing? Anyone else here remember getting those as a kid?

I was looking to start the tradition for my boys. They are a little bit "cheesier" compared to the old ones but I think it will be fun.

Above the Clouds....
I never got any myself but we started a collection for my son and now for the grandsons.

My son has every one (unopened) since 77.

Get them on wait list at father/son camp . May take 5 years to get accepted unless you know someone.... Bet you know someone.
Go to fairgrounds when they have electric train show. Buy a great Lionel set for 100.00

Love trains lowell, didn't know they had a show there, will check them out.

I've got a big old box of 40s/50s Lionel from my uncle. They were passed down before me to a cousin who absolutely destroyed them. It will probably cost mucho dinero to restore them but at one point I'd like to slowly restore them to their former beauty. We break out the Polar Express set every year for Christmas, my boys love it.

As far as the Hess...can't you buy it online now??

Took my kid on overnight train to Disney. Got a sleeper berth. Take the train to Charlotte and stay at Dunhill( they will send car for you). It is right across street from Exploris. Go to Bryson City for weekend and take 3 hr Great Smokey Train ride to Fontana Lake. We rented cottage at Blowing Rock and rode Tweetsie several times. Lastly on Sundays ride the New Hill Train south of Raleigh. Looks like train show was 11/4. Of course there is Lego store at the mall.I have spent more money there than with bookie.

Funny, was planning on doing the overnight train to Disney this May. If picks up in Raleigh? Amtrack right? How was it?

Was going to go to Tweetsie this year but am going to Banner Elk for Thanksgiving so didn't go up yet. I think it's done now for the year but we've heard it's fun.

Disney trains leaves about 930 at night and gets in about 1030 in the morning .they serve you dinner once you get on the train. Sleeper berth is small and I had too much luggage it was perfect for 5 yr old and myself. Tweetsie is fun if kids are under 7. We loved going to Bryson City and Dillsboro and riding train to Fontana Lake. Train to Charlotte was fun. Try the New Hill train near Shearin Harris Lake. Kids love riding in the open air car.
