Ive been surfing these boards for about 3 years, and finally got an account, don't ask me what took so long. Anyway, Ive read a lot of guys post on here over the years and their write ups, Ive learned that this is an awesome site for info and to make new friends.
A little about me,So far in my tenure of sports gambling, mostly nfl and ncaa, some baseball, I have come out slightly ahead or a big loser. Ive been searching the fourms and internet trying to get an "edge". Ive come across some very interesting yet extremely complicated formulas to try and determine the out come of games. My current method for selecting games is read read read write ups and look at stats as well as look at some of the posts made by some of the more knowlegable ones here(senor capper one of my favs).Ive even tried one posters method, I believe his name was love doctor or something, and tried simulating games on my xbox.
At any rate, my point is, I want to become a student of the game. My current methods of selecting winners is failing. I need an "edge". Lately I have been trying to come up with formulas in excel and messing around with stats, the problem is I don't know where to start. I hope some of the vets and the like can point me in the right direction.
Having said all that. Where in fact do I start. I like many learn from experience;however one should have a good foundation to build on.What would be a good book/excel formulas/formulas in general, that would give me info on how to decipher information to reach an estimated guess on the outcome of games.
I know it's going to be one hell of a season, I wish everyone the best of luck and look forward to reading and learning for all of you.
Cheers.

Matt
