BREAKING: Indiana state legislators pass legal sports betting, approving conference report right before end of the session by wide margins in both chambers.

Hey Jack - Indiana Sports betting Passed

It passed in Iowa as well. Governor is hesitating on signing as she had strong support from the Bible thumpers in the last election and risks pissing them off as they have been vocal opponents of expanding gambling in the state.
Stay tuned and if it becomes law, I?ll let the forum know.

Getting sports betting in Indiana doesn't do anything for me at all. Even when I'm in Vegas I'm betting at bookmaker or betagame anyway. Maybe will get setup and see how it goes with the phone app, maybe I will like it.

In Indiana they charge the operators $100K for the license to take sports bets and it's $50K per year plus 9% of the revenue. Initially, after reading that, I wondered what the qualifications are to become an operator but I wouldn't be able to compete with the casinos anyway. It was a nice thought for a couple minutes.

Exactly my thoughts about it here in Iowa. Doubt they will offer decent lines or much live betting, but I certainly want to find out.
I like the idea of being able to collect a winning bet in a half hour if I wanted to, but it?s so easy to move funds to and from offshore via bitcoin these days that if it?s vetoed by the gov I ain?t gonna lose any sleep over it and I fully expect it to become law in 2021 under a new house/senate and governor.

We feared the same thing here in PA. Rumors were there wouldn't be much offered and what was offered was going to be at -130 on both sides. What really happened is we have thousands of options each day, each game has multiple lines to choose from (EG: baseball you can bet either team at -1,-1.5-2,-2.5, +1,+1.5,+2.5, etc...) and the lines on NFL opened at -107 for both sides. They quickly got to -110, but it's never moved beyond the -115 or occasional -120 you would see anywhere if the line was on a number like 3.

We can't bet through the phone app, but you can build your ticket with it and that creates a bar code which they scan at the desk and you just hand them the cash and move on. We also have a decent number of kiosks around the casino you can shove money in and make your bets without using a teller.

I've always like using betagame here and likely still will as the casino is just a bit inconvenient on weekdays with traffic on the north side to make it a daily stop, but I'm pretty happy with the options we ended up with.

Hope it works out for you as there really is zero reason it shouldn't. Those bible thumpers are a real problem in this country. I'll quote Scott Van Pelt again "stop being offended by things that don't concern you".

I'm sure they must have a safeguard in place where someone from another state can't just a get PO Box/Phone number and start playing, correct?

That?s good to hear. My concern was newbies being happy betting into -120 or more all the time.

Being in Washington, I used to go across the river into Oregon all the time to bet 25 years ago. That shouldn?t be an issue. If you can physically be there that is.

I have read about people crossing state line to bet from their phone in NJ and it doesn't work. They check IP and can't even login if you're using VPN. Not sure how they could block or monitor phone bets if the operator is a sneaky fuk and allows it. Probably a big fine or suspension if they got caught though.

How do they monitor in Vegas?

Gonna be an interesting few years coming up.
