YTD: 1-2
Another push last night on Iona +4. As I indicated in my thread, I went back and put some more $$$ on Iona at +5.5, so in the real world I won, but I'm not counting it toward my record, since the line I first posted was the +4.
Today:
Akron +8 1st half
Cincinnati has not looked very good at all in the preseason, especially in the first half. For example, they were only up by 4 points hosting EA Sports, and were actually LOSING 21-22 to Northern Kentucky at the half of that game. Florida transfer James White should be a big boost for this team but he isn't eligible to play for another month, so no help tonight.
Akron has all 5 starters, and at least 10 lettermen overall returning from last year's team, and looks to be even better with the addition of some solid new players. 6-5 swingman Darryl Peterson will sit this one out with a bad back, but returning 6-7 Junior Rick McFadden, and 6-6 freshman Romeo Travis (LeBron James' high school teammate) should be up to the task of filling in for him. Akron's returning backcourt features two seniors, Derrick Tarver (20.6 ppg last year) and Johnny Hollingsworth (17.4 ppg, 4.1 assists), who shouldn't be initimidated by playing at Cincinnati, or anywhere else for that matter. The Zips also have enough size up front to bang with the physical Bearcats inside. Lots more info in spang's thread if you want more.
Cincy has used some furious late-game rallies to pull away in their exhibition contests, which is why I'm going with the first half play, but Akron looks to have enough talent to hang in for the game cover as well. 15 points is a lot to give considering Cincinnati typically only scores in the 60's (66.6 pts per game last year). Good luck.
