Up until now, one of my favorite films
about the gambling world was "The Runner"
with John Goodman and Joe Montegna.
Last night I saw a screener copy,
(that's an advance release)
of a movie called "Double Down".
No it's not all about Blackjack
It is absolutely one of the funniest and best movies ever about Sports Betting.
When it becomes available be sure you
rent a copy.
Everyone on this list will enjoy it.
The movie has something that will
relate to all of you.(me too)

DOUBLE DOWN.

best one i have seen, with james caan, on cable once in a while. i forgot the name, but it mentions something about gambling in the title, i believe.

school professor betting daily basketball games gets into a real mess with bookies. a very sad story, and a real eye-opener for actual and potential addicts. late 60's, early 70's.

Not about gambling, but I watched an absolutely great movie this weekend.

"Requuim for a Dream" (spelling is defintiely wrong).

It is about addiction, and how they can keep you from your dreams. It is fabulous. It is not going to win any "feel good" movies of the year awards, but it is an incredible flick.

Check it out.

On the course!
I remember a 48 Hours about 12 years back that was all about Vegas and sports betting. It had some stuff on Lem Banker, oddsmakers, and showed guys wagering on the NFL playoffs. It was really something to watch these guys during the games at the sportsbooks. Ever since I saw that, I have wanted to be in LV for the SB. Alas, I have never been.......

I really want to get there for this one, but I won't know til fall if I can go.

IN THE MOVIE THE RAIN MAN WITH TOM CRUZ AND HOFFMAN THE SCENE AT CEASARS PALACE PLAYING BLACKJACK WHILE HOFFMAN IS COUNTING THE SHOE IS AWESOME, ESPICIALLY WHEN CRUZ SAYS: "YOU GOOTA LOVE THIS TOWN!"

GO RENT THE MOVIE "CASINO" W/ PEDCI, SHARON STONE, AND DINERO. DIRECTED BY OLIVER STONE. A MUST SEE!

I've seen Casino many times and
I have a copy on DVD.
It's not the same thing...
That was really a mob movie about Las Vegas,
and how the Casino's operated and I agree
that DeNiro, Joe Peschi and Sharon Stone were great in that film.
"Double Down" is all about the world
of Sports Betting...
everybody that has ever gambled more that just occasionally,
will feel what this movie is all about.
It should be out in a few weeks.
I don't remember it being in theaters,
if it was it must have died a quick death.
This movie definately is not for everyone.
God, you have to be a gambler to know what their even talking about at times.
As for "The Gambler" with James Caan,
that is also one of the all-time movies
on the evils of gambling. That guy really had it bad.

So Cal
If I remember "The Gambler" correctly, it was loosely based on a story originally written by Dostoevsky. It was quite a sobering movie. I'd like to see it again, don't know if it's available on tape.
