STARDUST INVITATIONAL HANDICAPPING TOURNAMENT

September 28, 2001

Opening Round -- Match 2

Pete Korner

vs.

Lance Zeirlein
Contest Format -- 16 nationally prominent celebrities & handicappers have been invited by the management of the Stardust Race & Sports Book to compete for a winner-take-all $10,000 prize. Each week two contestants are matched against each other in a head to head meeting with each handicapper making 7 selections against the pointspread at the Stardust using the line at approximately 8:30 PM (the contest airs over radio station KDWN (AM 720) at 9:00 PM and is also available for broadcast on the Internet). One of the 7 selections is designated as a Best Bet. The winner is determined by the handicapper having the greater winning percentage with all selections rated equally. The Best Bet is used only as a tie breaker in the event both handicappers have the same record on all 7 selections. Pushes are ignored (thus 5-2 would lose to 4-1-2). The winner will be the handicapper who successfully wins a total of 4 matches with the finals to be held in week 16, December 21, 2001. The weekly contest is held in the Race & Sports Book at the Stardust at 9:00 PM on Fridays and is open to the public.

SUNSET STATION CONTEST -- Week of September 29 - October 1, 2001

Contest Format -- Twelve reputable and nationally or regionally prominent handicappers have been invited to participate in the contest. Each contestant makes 6 selections against the pointspread (generally Thursday noon lines are used), designating one selection as a Best Bet. Each regular winner is worth 2 points; a Best Bet winner is worth 3 points, all pushes (including Best Bets) are worth 1 points; losers are worth 0 points. The top four contestants after 15 weeks advance to the semi-final with the top two advancing to a head-to-head final in week 17. With 13 points available to be won each week, through 15 weeks a 'perfect score' would be 195 points.

In week 16 the top four finishers from the first fifteen weeks will compete according the same rules except that this phase of the contest runs just one week. The top two finishers in week 16 will compete head-to-head in week 17 for the 2001 Sunset Station Handicapping Championship and $5,000 winner-take-all first prize.

Selections of the 12 contestants for Week 3 (September 29-October 1)

12 Contestants compete during the first 15 weeks of the Contest after which the top 4 finishers meet in the semi-finals to reduce to 2 the number of contestants who will meet in the Sunset Station Invitational Handicapping Tournament Finals on December 29

Selections & Results for the 2001 Contest

Since most of the Contestants also offer their selections for sale to clients, in order to achieve an ethical balance between providing solid handicapping information to the public free of charge and retaining the integrity of the handicappers to their paying clients, the names of the specific contestants are not being disclosed as to the identity of whose selections are whose but the same Contestant's selections will be provided in the same spot each week. In other words, Contestant # 1 will ALWAYS be Contestant # 1 throughout the season so that you may track the performance of each Contestant week by week.

IE, thanks for posting the names of the touts that come here to steal plays. Good for you! They all are coin flipping guessers anyway.

Please elaborate on how u caught a virus from the nss site. I don't know about catching viruses from websites, so I'd like to know. Thanks.

I'm curious but because people agree on games etc... it is stealing?

I didn't know any one person owned a copyright on plays & from personal experience it is common to check out what cappers you fully respect are playing.

Mr. Promises Delivered, I guess you missed it last year when it was discovered that several of the services were STEALING word for word Nollan's writeup's, huh?

You can take up for the touts all you want, and I'll keep trashing them. Why would you want to side with the touts???? You don't believe their lies, do you?

I do remember that incident last year.

In general I personally feel that 99% of people have the wrong definition of what a tout & sports service is.

There are actually some respectible services out there which get grouped in what the public's definition of a tout/service is.

that is correct, the vegas people do steal info and opinion from here and other posting forums.

I work for one and I nearly had a cow when my words were used as well as my user name. I won't say the capper, or my user name though.

i dont't know, guys.

first, i.e., thanks for the expanded info.
personally, my interest in the hilton is one of curiosity, although i may skip what appears to be a stupid pick where i have done no research and the consensus tells me otherwise with a very strong confidence level, not just a top pick.

i pay absolutely no attention to anybody's picks unless they can make a case for it. i will read ocassionally the match-ups at sportsnetw and there is a fellow at db who can write an interesting resume of the games with a limited amount of words. i enjoy both of those, and that is about the extent of my web research for football, with 98% of it coming from right here. oh, i forgot, for amusement, you can't beat the harmon forecast, who will guarantee 75-80% winners, and with a track record to prove it. LOL

do we have fools who follow anyone in the quest for a (COSTLY) freebie or the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? absolutely.

i am on record here at both forums as being all over denver and green bay, with a reversal pick on tuesday, from a first impression lean to seattle, to picking oak straight out. that challenge from one of our members, made me do research and reverse myself. so they came in the top 5 at the hilton. ok, it makes me feel good, that is all.

case in point: in the contest, i picked carolina-wk 1 and skipped minny in week 2, both in the hilton top 5, and both heavily favored at our own contest as well.

as far as others coming in to browse here, take a hint from nolan, etc.: i am sure there are some free loaders, but suspect most just want to get a feel for what is going on, much like us regulars who read, post and re-post in the quest for sharpening our skills and picks. say, even russ culver, whom i do not know. before he makes his picks he wants to research, including mj. so what? why should he be chastised for browsing?

i suspect there are many regulars here who have never said a word in the forums. does that make them spies or bad? some people are freaked at the possibility of posting something and being challenged, or even ridiculed, as they perceive it.

does the fact that you may have a service which you don't tout, prevent you from being here and having an exchange with others?

i will say it again: the fact that any known person or service click on to mj with a certain frequency is a tribute to mj and all those who contribute here.

as far as hilton guys, i doubt it. there is too little info posted here before the deadline. with the exception of some of nolan's "early releases" and some posts by myself. anyone who wants to correct me, go ahead, i don't keep tabs on everyone.

btw, there are some cliches that may be repeated by more than one person without having to "steal" it from others, such as:

they are going in opposite directions.

there is value, there is no value.

right place, right time, or the opposite.

there are also a few people, including here, that will emulate the top 5 hilton picks, or select according to the confidence level. they seem to be doing ok, and as long as it works for them, more power to them. they are looking for money and are finding it there.

i suppose that it boils down to having a tremendous variety of people and approaches to the games. i keep telling jack that he should not worry about what others are doing, and if they frequent mj, well, that is the name of the game, more clicks, and more power to the mj website. the question is, how is mj doing, after having said all this?
