Tried googling to no avail....had a discussion with friends and don't know answer

Example:

Team A goes on power play..lets say 1:20 comes off and they don't score. Team A now commits a penalty. Team B and team A skate 4 on 4 for a bit. No one scores. After 40 seconds team B has a 1 man advantage for 1:20. Yet they fail to score on their opportunity. Are they now 0-1 on the power play even though they didn't get full two minutes... Neither did team A for that matter.

What if the times are different and team b only gets a man advantage for 20 seconds..does that count as 0-1 on power play for statistics if they don't score ?

Any insight appreciated.

To my knowledge, even if you get a 1 second power play, it counts as a power play. So yes, 20 seconds of 5 on 4 would get you an 0-1 on the PP if you don't score

I personally think that's the case as well

just trying to plug something in a database and curious what the actual correlations mean and that the stat is skewed or at the minimum isn't necessarily all telling for what i was looking for.

thnx

And yes....a 1 second powerplay in the NHL counts as a powerplay.
