Since i bet big on this a week ago and got Hokies +1.5 , I have been studying it fairly hard ... It wont be as easy as I had hoped, thinking Techs RB duo and OL would be able to control the game ... Aggies at home are a whole diff animal, everyone knows that b/c their D is considered as solid as anyones ...They only had 2 players drafted LY, and last time it was that low, they came back and won league--that according to Steele's mag ....
they have a slight QB controversey, the frosh Mcneal is supposedly the 2nd coming to Vik, but incumbent Farriss will take the snaps I have to believe coming off their bye week .... Tech too hadextra time seeing they played on thursday
Many think win this and A&M will be 9-0 hosting OU on 11/9, which might be true, seeing how Nebraska has fallen ....
LY aggies' running game was their worst since 1970 & they finished #106 in nation in total Off.
Tech will have to score 21 Im guessing to have any chance of covering this game, which could be tricky, seeing Aggies thus far have surredered an amazing 1 YPC!!
Tech is very young and faces first road trip, plus its at Nite in front of 89K ... WE all know their Rbs Suggs & Jones might be as lethal as SMUs pony express days, but Noel or Randall are goin to have to find some air space to augment Hokie ground corps or Tech will struggle ... Hoping for a big special teams edge, but thats not always going to happen ...
Aggies have 16 returning starters, Tech 11 ... Ive watched 2 of Tech's games and A&M's win (but tuff ATS loss at Pitt), the same pit that throttled Tech 38-7 LY in Heinz ...
anyhow, totally looking for comments concerning this game ...
I see Tech winning a struggle, 24-17 or so ....
heres some chatboard stuff I picked up in Aggieland
Food For Thought-AGGIES 28-0 vs. non-conference teams....
In the Slocum era at Kyle Field. This according to the media guide and only including regular season games-very interesting !?!?!?!?!!?!? This will be a close game-you can count on that.........
Re: What if the Ags win vs. VT?
PLC, I'm not sure if the talent level on our offensive skilled positions is as good as advertised. Actually, I know that it is not. None of our skill position players would start for Texas, OU, or any other top division I team. This is how I see it:
QB: VT, at least he can run with the ball. Who knows if he can throw. Ours can do neither so far. Long was more accurate, but how will he react against a pass rush from a *real* team?
FB: VT, no contest.
RB: VT, no contest.
WR: (Toss up) Who knows, I would say that we have the edge, but our receivers have too many key drops this season. If they want to be recognized they need to prove it on the field.
TE: (Tie) VT has better blockers period. Their execution is incredible. We have Porter but no other legitimate threat.
OL: VT, no contest. We haven't been able to block anyone since Grimes arrived. Whether that is some type of coincidence or not can be argued. However, don't look for the OL to all of a sudden blow people off the ball.
Punt Returner: VT, no contest. We haven't had a serious punt returner for about four years.
VT clearly has out executed us while arguably playing better teams. Since I've watched A&M football for a long time, stats and figures really don't matter much. We have a tendency to play to the level of our opponents, while even sometimes appearing invencible at Kyle. We'll see, but on paper, at least offensively speaking, VT has a lot better players than we do.
Keys to win - We win IF:
1.If we don't whif a punt return or get a punt blocked
2. Force them to throw the football (they do not like to throw) - average yards per rush 3 yards or less
3. Score 25 points or more
4. Less than 50 yards in penalties with less than 25 against O line
5. Don't turn the ball over by interception of fumble
6. Have an effective kicking game of out own - pin them deep
Everything else will take care of itself. Given the scenario above we will have 400 yards plus offense.....and 35 minutes of clock
WELL, THERE IT IS,
