I have thought many times about making homemade beer or wine but decided to go a different route. I think I'm going to try my luck at making homemade liquor. I'm looking at a copper still that a guy makes here in Texas. It's a small one but looks good. I've been reading up on it quite a bit.

Anyone on here make anything on their own? Any tips outside of not making myself go blind?

I thought that was illegal. Pretty sure a local guy advertised a still for sale on the local FB yard sale site and got arrested. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought that's what I heard.

I think you can make a certain amount for home consumption. Not sure.

It is, but here in Texas, if they do come to your house, they will give you a warning. And that's if they come to your house. Honestly they can come if they want. This is one of those laws that is old and needs to be changed. There is just no reason why I shouldn't be able to make something that is legal to buy. I'll take my misdemeanor and move on.

I talk a big game but they won't mess with you. I've talked to enough people around that are doing it and unless you're trying to sell it then they don't care.

my next door neighbor makes beer, vodka and wine in his detached garage. All of them taste like shit.

:mj07:

I made beer once. What a fuking mess, AND the finished product did not provide any buzz at all. Plus, it cost me a small fortune for bottles, bottle caps, and a tool to attach the caps to the bottles. A capper? :mj07:

Whathisnuts makes wine and it's very good. If I knew how to make what he makes I would definitely be making it all the time but after the beer experience, nope.

Same thing here but just the beer and wine. Beer IMO is just hard to make good and wine would be cool but I'm not sure I would drink enough of it to make it worth the investment. Now vodka, rum and tequila are three things that I drink quite a bit of. Once summer hits my house is busy. We have a lot of neighbors that know my wife and I are probably drinking out by the pool every evening. It's amazing how many people think your margaritas are the "best" so they have to stop by. If my tequila sucks and a few of them get the squirts from it then maybe the traffic will die down. :toast:

I have a store right down the street from my house that sells Vodka and Beer. It's very convenient, so I buy it there, that way I don't have to make it. Do you have these stores in your area?

No, we don't have any beer or liquor stores here in Texas. I'm doing this because I'm a lush and need to drunk. What the fuck man! Sometimes things are just fun to do on your own. We actually have oil change places here in Texas as well but I'm very picky about my vehicle so I do it on my own.

Honestly, it will cost me more to make the stuff(because of buying the still) than it would be to just go buy some at the store but again, it's about the process. We have great BBQ here in Texas but you know what? I still heat the Kamado Joe up and cook on it myself

If you see nice looking guys with ATF on their jackets knocking at your door, it probably wasn't a great idea.....:0008

Been there done that-and they didn't knock............ scary!!

Except the two guys I talked to that came to my work place- one had sweat pants and wife beater on and the other wore jeans and cowboy boots. We're pretty laid back up here in the sticks.

15 miles from me to the closest place to buy beer or liquor. mississippi has a lot of dry counties and a few where you are allowed to buy beer and liquor.

till 2 years ago you could go from my home in mississippi to atlanta and not be able to buy a
beer on sunday; still cannot buy liquor from mississippi to atlanta on sunday and it is 300 miles.

Damn, I had no idea. You can buy booze everywhere here, even gas stations. Sorry to hear this.

I've changed what I'm looking at. I need a still with a reflux in order to make high end vodka.

You guys know you'll be jealous when I'm out on the weekend cooking some ribs or brisket on the Kamado and also making some homemade boos. Of course if I get arrested I'll make sure my wife gets a pic of me being hauled away so you can all laugh.
