Sorry TU, didn't see your thread when I posted my plays

Transferred to this thread ...

Outright plays (1.5 units):

K.J. Choi to win 11/1 e.w. @ BetDirect
Looks the pick of the favourites. In his last European Tour start, he won the German Masters; in his last Davidoff Tour start he won the SK Telecom Open! In a similar fashion to 2002, he has finished 2003 in his best form of the season and it was probably only tiredness (seven events in eight week across two Tours) that caused a slightly faltering end to his PGA Tour season. He is now rested and can take advantage of the fact that he has played here in his lesser well-known days.

Michael Campbell to win 20/1 e.w. @ Stan James
With the prices generally 14-16/1 on Cambo, this is rather a large price. He is not in the top bracket of favourites, but he s just as capable of winning this event. His last 6 finishes on the European Tour read: 1st, 12th, 2nd, 8th, 11th and 7th and he does have a good record in Davidoff Tour-sanctioned events. He shot all four rounds under 70 last year to finish 13th and will also be at an advantage in that he has not travelled greatly for this event. This is not a tiring end-of-season event for him, but the start of a three-week burst of competitive golf in the Southern Hemisphere.

Prayad Marksaeng to finish in the top-five 14/1 @ SkyBet
Marksaeng should hold no fears in this company either. In the co-sanctioned Singapore Masters earlier this year, he finished 3rd and in the co-sanctioned Malaysian Open last year, he finished 6th. He has also been competitive on the Japan Tour this year with a number of top-10 finishes, including the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament two weeks ago. His last victory was back in 2000, so even though the 100/1 with Coral is very tempting, it would appear more prudent to back the veteran in the top-five market only. He is still capable of a win in that market.

Matchup plays (1.5 units unless stated):

Michael Campbell to beat Thomas Bjorn -102 @ Five Dimes [3 units]
Opposing Bjorn who has made a point of avoiding playing in Asia outside Japan. While he has won twice in three visits to Japan, he has played in the rest of Asia only twice in the last five years, finishing 48th in last year's Hong Kong Open and missing the cut in the 1998 Johnnie Walker Classic. He may have won two weeks ago in Japan, but he obviously has his reasons for avoiding playing in this part of the world and so is opposed with at least two of the outright selections.
(also available at Victor Chandler, SkyBet and Bet365)

K.J. Choi to beat Thomas Bjorn -111 @ Paddy Power
While Campbell has finished in the top-10 in five of his last seven starts on Davidoff Tour-sanctioned events, Choi has repeated that feat in four of his last five starts in Davidoff Tour-sanctioned events, winning two of them. He is playying well and is comfortable playing in this climate.
(also available at Stan James)

Padraig Harrington to beat Thomas Bjorn -110 @ BlueSq [3 units]
Harrington is obviously very comfortable in this climate. He has played in eight Davidoff Tour-sanctioned events since 1998 and finished inside the top-15 on every occasion. He closed the European Tour season in good style and was not too taxed by his performance in the Nedbank Challenge last week. He should at least continue his run of top-15 finishes.
(also available at Expekt)

Padraig Harrington to beat Darren Clarke +110 @ Five Dimes [3 units]
Clarke is in the same camp as Bjorn. He has played only twice in Davidoff Tour-sanctioned events since finishing 14th in the Johnnie Walker Classic in January 1996. He missed the cut in the 1999 Malaysian Open and finished 39th against a very weak field in the 1999 Macau Open. On a different continent, he would be a close match for Harrington, but not in South-East Asia.
(also available at BetandWin, Paddy Power and Bet365)

Barry Lane to beat Nobuhito Sato -111 @ BetandWin [3 units]
Similar angle here. Sato is making his debut on the Davidoff Tour and has not really played very well on the Japan Tour for six months. Lane's form has not been much better, but he has plenty of experience in South-East Asia and on this course. He has made the cut in all five starts on this Tour in the last five years, including twice on this course, and he also finished 12th in this event on this course in 1997.

Barry Lane to beat Gary Emerson -115 @ Five Dimes [3 units]
Lane's record in this region is in stark contrast to Emerson - he has missed his last four cuts in Davidoff Tour-sanctioned events. He did have two good events in October, but outside that purple patch he has not been a match for Lane and this has been accentuated in this region.

Jamie Spence to beat Gary Emerson -110 @ BlueSq
Spence did tie Emerson for 3rd place in the Turespana Mallorca Classic in October in one of Emerson's good weeks and finished only two shots behind in the other. At other times, Spence has been dominant in this matchup and also has good form on this course: both cuts made in his two previous appearances and an 11th place finish last year.

Jamie Kingston to beat Hennie Otto -118 @ Expekt [3 units]
Big contrast here as well in terms of experience of playing South-East Asia. Otto has played just once, finishing 39th in the 1999 Johnnie Walker Classic, while Kingston has been successful on the Davidoff Tour for a number of years. His last two starts in Davidoff Tour events have both resulted in 3rd place finishes and he has played in this event for the last four years, finishing 8th in 2000, so he also has an important edge in course experience.

Jarmo Sandelin to beat Hennie Otto -115 @ Intertops [3 units]
As a winner of the 2001 Asian Open - he also finished in the top-10 on this course that year - Sandelin can also claim an distant edge in terms of experience in the region and on the course. His form was not that good at the end of the European Tour season, but as he has shown in the past two years, he has played very well in this region at the end of the year despite a lacklustre finish in his European campaign.

Who is this McEvoy??? I hope he doesnt sleep well on his lead.

I say this because the only double I placed this week was on Allenby and Harrington 84.5 to 1. Stanley had both of them at the top of his ratings list by margin so I figured it was worth a shot.

DTB,
I completed a bank transfer from the US to Centrebet. Still waiting for Stan James to credit my account for a transfer as well. I'm excited about these additions for the new year.

Jacobson made nice move for you yesterday. Wish I would have never watched him swing in PGA events but he sure is beginning to make believer out of me.:)

I have mentioned this some time ago, but the process of converting foreign currency to sterling takes quite a long time within the UK banking industry

When I have received withdrawals in cheques in dollars, I have been told it could take up to 28 days for funds to be credited to my account because it goes to an outside agency to verify with the financial institution on the cheques. I normally get the funds cleared within 10-14 days, but it should be no different for you to send funds to Stan James in dollars - they still have to put the funds into their bank account(s) and the banks won't clear this for quite some time.

To save a lot of time, it would be better (though you may face a small charge from your bank to organise this) to send cheques that are in sterling denomination.

TU - Excellent Call! That would have been one to share - I sure could have used it. My unposted picks all finished WELL OUTSIDE the money. Well done!

Nice one TU - you obviously have more conviction in my stats than me  ;)

Outrights final update: 0-3; -4.50 units

Choi 25th
Campbell 10th
Marksaeng 7th

Deserved better than a blank. Marksaeng had been the joint leader after 53 holes, but slowly slipped down the leaderboard until he finished one shot out of the place win at 14/1. That would have made a big difference on the weekly record!

Matchups final update: 3-6-0; -7.47 units

Campbell/Bjorn LOST by 2
Choi/Bjorn LOST by 5
Harrington/Bjorn WON by 4
Harrington/Clarke WON by 4
Lane/Sato LOST by 2
Lane/Emerson WON by 1
Spence/Emerson LOST by 6
Kingston/Otto LOST by 4
Sandelin/Otto LOST by 7

After a promising start when the first seven matchups were winning after the 1st round, it deteriorated rapidly. Bjorn began to play well and Lane and Spence both surrendered 54-hole leads over their opponents on the final day. Had looked a promising event, but turned out to be a heavy loss.

Davidoff Tour ytd
Matchups: 7-16; -14.12 units
18-holes: 0-0; +0.00 units
Outrights: 1-8; -3.75 units

Too right!!

Sorry but that 84.5/1 hit does not count in the golf forum recaps - I decided a long time ago that such outright doubles were unofficial fun bets. I didn't think I would see someone hit one

P.S.
No golf forum recap as besides that double, no-one finished in profit (especially me!).

Thanks guys. It was all or nothing as I really didnt have much of an option to lay off some of it. By the time I felt confident that no one else could catch Harrington and Otto....Otto was around -600 so I figured I would just ride it out. :D Told myself I would lay some on Otto if it went to a playoff.

Another cool thing is that I had absolutely no problem getting paid. Already in my Neteller. :D
