Williams will start for the Pirates on Saturday. The team is giving him some extra rest because of minor stiffness in his left shoulder, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
"He's showing little signs of fatigue," manager Lloyd McClendon said. "I thought it would be a good idea to freshen him up for the home stretch." Williams had shoulder surgery three years ago. He threw 155 innings last year in his first full season since his surgery. This year, he has logged 136 2/3 innings. He's struggled in his past two starts, allowing 10 runs in 11 1/3 innings.
