Alright guys, gonna take the kids and wife on a short trip(Feb 18th-21st) and looking for suggestions. Plan on renting a car so willing to be outside the city(if we even stay in the city) just as much as in, so any surrounding areas are just as important. These four locations are super cheap for me and will allow for more spending while there. Selfishly I am leaning Cleveland so I can see the Football hall of fame but would like some suggestions from those that have visited most of these. Family interests include Sports, History, Nature Parks, Themed Parks, or any other form of entertainment for kids. Thanks for the help:toast:

Detroit? I guess you could do worse. GITMO would be better than Detroit.

Either way, I would stay away from both Detroit and Cleveland in February. Snow mixed with ice is cool and everything, but you'll wish you picked Texas the entire trip.

Wasn't sure if there were cool places to stay outside the city of detroit. I know the city itself has an awful rep. You are right, if it is brutal weather wise, might not be fun.

I don't know much about Houston, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around the other original choices in this thread.

Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
Cleveland in Feb can be iffy weather wise.

If you are up for the challenge, plenty to do and see.

I was at Canton football hof in Oct...awesome experience 45 minute drive from downtown, some awesome restaurants nearby I can recommend.....downtown is Rock and Roll HOF great . We rented a 4 bedroom home for a week in Parma, my old stomping grounds.

Catch a Cav's game...

Good Casino action at "Jacks Casino" downtown.

Bundle kiddies up for Metro Zoo, 10 minutes from downtown, good all day experience.

West side market downtown is a cool multi nationality landmark, great food and a a bazillion different meats and pastries.

Science museum, art museum, national history....name it, you got it.

Dallas warmer lots to do...bad traffic all day...

Brave the weather....:00x3

Just a quick get away and these locations are super cheap. Could also do Washington, Chicago, and Orlando but have done the Orlando thing and will be in Washington and Chicago within the next year anyway so don't really want to double up. It is honestly less about the location and more about letting the kids fly and enjoy a few things while there. If that means staying 3 hours outside where the plane lands then so be it. Nothing formal about this and wont have an itinerary, just letting the kids fly and letting them experience things and go places they haven't been. The more I hear the better flying into Houston and driving to SA is sounding.

Detroit, Houston....ho-hum...what to do? Houston last I was there I saw 2 Hispanics fighting over a parking space....they actually started ramming their junk cars into each others... Detroit I drove through and accelerated faster to escape.

Brave the weather....:00x3

Thanks DM:0008

Canton was obviously the big draw to this area as all four of us would really enjoy that. Also planned on getting a lot of dad points for taking the boys to see Labron, but just realized last night that it is the NBA all-star break the dates we are going:facepalm: The Weather thing has me leaning Texas at this point, but everything you listed seems like we would enjoy that area less the weather. Thanks again man!

Can't imagine why anyone would go to Cleveland or Detroit. Houston isn't near a beach (that's no beach, man).

I would take Dallas out of the four easily.

Why don't you take your family to San Antonio to view the River Walk & Alamo....

Don't believe it is that far a drive from Houston....

Enjoy whatever you decide....

Think I have it down to Dallas or SA. Don't mind a 2-3 hour drive as I like seeing things outside the city as well. Consensus seems clear that SA has the most to offer. Thanks AR!
