cover the area with a stick of butter or margarine smeared on the skin surrounding the area.

flames/heat work well too.

so does coating the area in vaseline.. works like the butter.

Next time dont pull it out like you did. make the sucker crawl out on its own so you dont end up with two tiny pinchers under your skin like you have now (unknowingly) giving you Lyme's Disease.

How should a tick be removed?

"Any tick should be removed as soon as possible. The best way is to use tweezers to grab the tick as close to the skin as possible and pull it straight out. Do not squeeze the tick's body when removing it. Do not handle ticks with bare hands. Wash your hands after removing a tick. You may want to apply an antiseptic to the bite. After removing, drown the tick in alcohol or kerosene and keep it in case illness occurs so you can show it to your doctor or send it to the health department for identification."

hope that helps.

I'm sure he'll be fine.....but if by chance a rash appears on his skin that somewhat resembles a bullseye......or he has headaches or stiffness......take him to the doc.

Actually, applying heat to a dead tick won't do any good. The idea behind it is that a tick will withdraw the head on it's own upon "feeling the heat" so to speak. That's when you nab the little b*stard.
