For a newbie, it's very difficult to win.

It's smoke and mirrors and more.

Even a battle-scarred veteran has to have his wits about him.

It's knowing what to look for and why and it's not what you think.

from your grading...home dogs would have been 17-9 against away favorites!! home court in college basketball is very strong...usually more of an advantage than given in the power ratings. conference play and second time meeting during the season usually favor the dog.

Just my take on things...good luck to all....rt

You have to understand the value of those home dogs. Trust me, you can't win everyday or make money everyday. Take some time to look at the spread and teams that are playing. On avg, if I'm capping a game, it takes me 20 mins to go through each game. But if I find one I like right away, I take it. Try not to take alot of games either, you'll end up wasting money.

I am becoming more and more self sufficient (learn sumthin' every day) but I am really glad I found this site in 2001. You can learn a bunch from watching the good ones on here. What I liked to do when first starting out was get a feel for who the good cappers are on here, write down ALL the games those individuals like and than analyze those games and see what YOU think. After a while you see what things good cappers look for and start to develop YOUR own system and what YOU feel comfortable with.

Stick with one conference, and learn the teams inside and out. Follow home and away trends, scheduling, and how they play out of conference games. You will find some bad lines out there, that hopefully you can expose. The prep work goes on all season with these teams, and you should pay heed to who's leaving/coming in, etc. The lines are pretty sharp on the TV games, and anything goes then....

Find a good set of power rankings. (I do my own)

Try and find a conference to concentrate on

Stay away from the TV games. Vegas usually has those numbers dead on.

I think one of the golden keys to winning at this is realizing just how valuable home court advantages are. . . I don't think Vegas ever values it to its fullest because most cappers don't give this advantage much of a look anyways. They simply look at a number and say "I believe this team could beat this team by this number" nevermind the fact that the game is on the road. . . not a neutral court! Just something to consider.

Manage your money well, (never chase !!) and limit yourself to the conferences that you have the most exposure to.

Stay within your limits whether you are up or down. This is long season with many games on a daily basis. Don't be afraid to shut it down for the week, ahead or not. Nothing wrong with taking a small profit from one week to the next. I aslo suggest playing only a few games, the more you bet in terms of games the more they like...I know that is hard when Wednesday's and Saturday's roll around. When you are down for the week, continue to bet the same amount or move on to the next...no need to press or try to get it back. Asolutely no parlays or teasers...it is tough enough to pick one winner let alone two. Lastly, pay attention to some of the great handicappers here...research their plays. This can be fun, if you stay within your realm.

My biggest problem is playing TV games more than I should. Goofy shit seems to happen because they know most people play on something the can watch. I also find myself playing too many games at times.

When in doubt, error on the 'dog.

lots of ways starting out, most named the most important items. I cap every game and every conference, but i've been doing it for 20 years. When starting out, most important to stay within the means of afford-ability. You can go on line and bet 10. a game and it won't hurt. Don't chase by betting up! Follow one conference at first, say one you live by. Watch satellite and coaching interviews and player interviews, as you can learn allot about players and injuries and changes in starters and coaching tendencies. I look at point differential mostly and line differences of anything over or below 4 points. Anything i post will have a line error to me and how i cap. There might be 70 games but if only 2 have a 4 point difference, they are the only ones i play. DISCIPLINE is the most important factor. Another that no one touched on was do not pay attention to services only to trend them or fade them. Pay no attention to phone calls from people who say they have bought games or have inside info. They will take your money and not talk to you after a week of losers. There are around 5 descent capers on this site for baskets, more for football. Stay away from all people who print they won in 5 inch letters , they'll be gone in a month or two. Don't be afraid to ask questions from capers or ask for opinions on games. The more information you have the better prepared you are to make a educated decision. treat it like a business. you have to put the time in. Then after a while of playing, you will know what things stick out when your looking at stats, trends, road, and home lines, etc. Some guys put out allot of info on games and they know their conferences pretty well. listen to them and research those games and if you like it thats a start. Never bet a game if you don't like it. Never blame anyone else for your loses. Always listen to CLEM , just don't beat your wife or dog. Wish you success, it won't be easy, ARROW
