Couldn't agree more.

Quote from Walton from today's game, "Why is ANYONE shooting for the Lakers other than Kobe Bryant!?!?" Brilliant comment Bill, no one should shoot at all other than Bryant. That would work well.

So Cal
Calm down, boys! I have heard Walton for years as commentator on Clipper games and I can assure you that he is simply being sarcastic when he makes most of his seeemingly inane comments. Having lived near LA all my life, I have heard Walton hundreds of times. Believe me, he says things to get under people's skin, as he obviously has with so many. If you listen to him closely, he is just mocking the typical tv announcer. Example, if play by play guy Ralph Lawler gets overly excited over a key rebound in crunch time, expect Walton to follow Lawler's comment with something like "That was, without doubt, one of the greatest rebounds in the history of the L.A. Clippers, if not the entire history of organized basketball in general." He is not being serious fellows, he's just making fun of the fact that so many people treat the game as a life and death struggle.:nono:

Sarcastic or not...

Sarcastic or not...

Bill Walton does manage to get under people's skin rather easily. If that is his intention, he certainly does it well.

So Cal
Walton has been Clipper commentator for years and I have heard him in hundreds of games. He mixes some excellent basketball insight with outrageous statements that are clearly not true. He baits the play by play guy as often as possible. I can understand why some people find him rather annoying. I just find him funny. One thing he does better than most, however, is tell the truth. He doesn't mince words when discussing mistakes, ability or lack thereof, etc. Personally, I seldom watch network games so he might be entirely different - but doubtful.

Just got FSW2 out here a year ago. Do catch some of the Clippers games and I must say it's different than his NBC work.

Sure, he's no Doug Collins (IMO he's the best color guy on a national scale in recent times), Czar or even Danny Ainge, probably because he'd make a HORRIBLE coach. In other words, he's not an X's and O's guy. Frankly, I tune him out when he's doing Clippers games. He's honest and opinionated in his own way, but as far as insight goes leaves a lot to be desired.

However, I do try to catch his games on NBC when he's doing dual-color with Steve Snapper Jones. Sure, Walton still says some asinine things at times, but those two were made for each other. They're absolutely hilarious! Kinda like Curly and Larry, with Marv as Moe. Or maybe it's because Marv and Snapper pick on poor Bill so much that I enjoy the broadcasts. Go figure.

Walton is great!

Walton is great!

When we had the NBA season pass preview, I had to watch all the Clips games hoping that Walton was announcing. The guy knows his stuff about basketball, but he also mixes in a bunch of BS, which is why people don't like him. When him and Snapper are together on NBC, Jones always busts Walton out for BS statements, which can be very entertaining. Sure, the guy loves to talk about former UCLA players and especially big men a little too much, but that can be funny too when he says stuff like another star center out of UCLA, Jelani McCoy has just entered the game, how can you not like it? Being from Milwaukee, my favorite comment was during the Bulls/Wiz game and Snapper said there was no one in the league that got their hands on more balls, but couldn't control it than Brad Miller. Walton immediately jumped in with What about Earvin Johnson in Milwaukee, that guy gets his hands on everything and catches nothing. Anyone who says Raja Bell comes from nowhere to be "starring" in the Eastern Conference Finals after Bell makes 2 layups for his first four points of the series, can't be taken seriuosly, which brings lots of entertainment value to Walton's announcing:)
