I coach High School football, am an O.C. and O Line Coach at the varsity level. I only hope that someday I can run a football program the same way Tressell does at OSU, with class. He may not have the best kids, but he coaches hard and gets his kids to play hard. I believe that I do not need the best kids to win. If I get my kids to play 100% and coach them right to get them in the right place, I can win most of my games. I think OSU does this, as I believe they were well prepared for Miami even though Miami has better talent.

Congrats to Ohio St and their fans, they were the more classy and better team tonite. They got a lot of breaks tonite, but u make your breaks. I believe that a team makes their own luck, not wait for it to happen. Turnovers are caused, they do not just happen. Do not say they were lucky, they earned their breaks. They got hosed on a non call on holding that would probably have ended the game. Holding was the proper call in OT, not PI as was called by ref, but the ref who made the call was signaling holding the whole way. It was a good call.

Bottom line is that it was a great game for college football, and OSU will maybe give a blueprint for how to beat a team with superior athletes.

Congrats Ohio St.

but,i have a problem with 4-6 weeks from the end of the last regular season game to the championship without game competition....you see it in boxing also....long layoffs can affect one team more than another.....one of the major reasons(aside from the obvious ones)that a tourney is needed..i know both teams have to endure the layoff, but i just don`t like the loss of continuity...... g.l.

I'm all for tourney. I don't think the layoff did wonders for Banks from Iowa. What was it about 50 days? That is ridiculas. Although I don't think they would have won anyway. But what do I know.

You are exactly correct about a tourney. In HS, I cannot imagine what it is like to play 10 games then wait even three weeks to play again. I would go nuts. Last year we skipped a week in our schedule because a team had to forfeit it's game because they suspended their whole team for a bench clearing brawl. We practiced the whole week with no game for that week. Was a long and boring week and needless to say we did not play well two weeks later as our offense lost all rhythm it had before.

Read an article that says the biggest problems school officials have with a playoff is they do not want it during finals. Does IAA finish prior to finals. It seems that you may have at least one dead week in their somewhere, but some schools do not even take finals at the same time.

Oh well ur point is valid.

The only reason there is no playoff is because the bowls think they will lose too much money, IMO ithey will gain more money with an 8 team playoff. It is basically what they have now anyway. The only complaints will be from the 9-10th teams.
