How would you beat the shift ?

in the 4th inning ichiro was on 1st with Tex at the plate. Detroit put on " the shift ". Miggy was 15 from 2nd base.
A . Why do you not bunt with Tex ?
B. or steal w ichiro, which make them play a regular defense behind verlander
It just amazes me that guys dont do this.
But, i had to put up with Adam Dunn not doing it all year either
