Poulter 28 to 1- Poulter has been playing great golf recenlty and wouldv'e won the Quinn Direct but Westwood played a superb final round. Poulter got married the following week and MC'd at Dunhill Championship. Finished 8th last week. All this leads me to believe he will be in the top five this week. Finished 19th here in 2006 even shooting 73's on the weekend.

Immelman 35 to 1- I have a good feeling with this one. Imms seems to be recovered from that virus where he lost so much weight and distance in his golf game. He has gained most of the weight back and played well at the Presidents Cup. Last month he aslo finished t6 at the Alfred Dunhill tourney. Also a little exta info- Ames won the '05 Western Open and Immelman won the following year. Ames won last week so maybe Imms will get it done this week...

Stenson 40 to 1- No rhyme or reason here I'm just ignoring his play last week and basing this on his play at the HSBC matchplay. He has struggled the past few months so maybe he can start the new season off with a win.

With regard to posting golf plays, I intentionally "shut it down" in September when football season meant no time for any due diligence on my golf capping. FWIW, this week I'll risk a few of my precariously held units of profit for 2007 on what are likely to be my final cracks at it for 2007 . . .

Ian Poulter(28/1) e.w.
- - The end of 2006 saw an impressive quota of players with season long "stories" indeed find their place all the way into the winner's enclosure - Justin Leonard, Mike Weir, Nick Dougherty, Steve Webster and Justin Rose, and going back a little further to Steve Stricker, Ross Fisher and Andres Romero. Ian Poulter is one of the leading protaganists exhibiting some sound and fury during his 2007 campaign that came up high and dry. Now comes one of those oddly classified events that offers opportunities to simultaneously put the matter of winning to rest early for 2008 and still feel like getting the job jone in 2007, hoist a trophy right on the heels of his close friend Justin Rose just before partnering him in the World Cup this month and right there in China, and make a cracking start in pursuit of Ryder Cup points before another assault on the dual points lists while again operating out of Florida. Sheshan in Shanghai is pretty clearly a track not as ideal as Valderama for rewarding putting the ball in play, and the grind in brutal conditions from last week and then the travel is certainly not ideal preparation, but his credentials suggest it would be no surprise, either.

Jyoti Randhawa(45/1) e.w.
- - 9th at Valderama with only one double bogey confirms to me his game is in rare form. We all see things differently and track players on our radars differently, but for me few players come to mind during 2007 as more dedicated in striving for a breakthrough win to validate their place (the rub being that same anxiety and emotion holds the seeds for blocking "our" joint road to the promised land), and now he gets an ideal field of 89 coming to his corner of the world, so to speak, and he has a cracking chance to get involved from the start in a nice pairing IMO with Nick Dougherty.

John Senden(50/1) e.w.
- - http://www.theage.com.au/news/golf/a-striking-game-putt-theres-a-problem-133/2007/10/27/1192941402157.html
- - Substantiated angles give Senden my 3rd slot, ahead of speculative possibilities on angles for Henrik Stenson (the course and fall season should suit, and a "rematch" from the recent battle with Ernie Els at Wentworth could contribute, and he's freaking overdue to rebound big time), Ross Fisher, Nick Dougherty (serving notice of designs to dominate would seem a bit soon and a bit much), or Trevor Immelman (but, here's my "story" from 2007, and it's a good one . . .).

FWIW: I believe there are 89 players in the field this year, and I read somewhere that there will be a cut to the low 65 and ties, but I'm not at all sure on that.

Cheers!

Aside: Henrik Stenson seems an even more interesting character than I realized after reading some of his interview transcripts; later I'll post a few excerpts:
