WOW! DET added Brett Hull now. Hasek, Robitaille, now Hull, and the Wings were good before adding this kind of quality. A little old, I suppose. More than ever I don't think anyone in the East can take the Cup out of the Western Conference. Before the preseason I would say Avs and Wings are CLEARLY the favorites. In the East the edge would have to go to NJ, WASH and probably TOR. -S

Detroit is really an "old" team now-but looking VERY good. The NHL season can be grueling-so I expect the wings to come out Hard. They will look to get as far out in front as possible for the late stretch run. If they can rest a little down the stretch-they will be tough come playoff time.

Doesn't Hull seem to be a bargain?? 9 mill for a guy that scored 37 goals for a defensive team. In a league that lacks scorers he seems to be a good pick up.
Vancouver almost nabbed him-but he turned down more cash for a run at the Cup.

They picked up Luc about a month ago from free agency. Can't remeber the details-but he must be like 36??
They now have picked up-Hasek-Robitalle and Hull.

Add Yzerman in there at 35 and I certainly agree that they are on the old side, but awfully good on paper too. Sounds like a likely strategy you point out, whale. Hard to say if that is a great fit, but I do think it makes them better for sure, and at a bargain price to boot.
