Could anyone shedd a little light on the "Humidor" situation in Colorado. I was told by SLVRBLET that they were using this process to keep the run count down. Isn't this a little too much human element involved if this is true. Could someone please clarify this theory.

because of the relatively dry air in denver, baseballs kept there have a tendency to dry out and thereby shrink a little in size and weight, giving them more "bounce as a result. the theory is that this phenomenon has contributed significanly to the high run totals at coors field in the past. this year the rockies have been storing their baseballs in a temperature/humidity controlled room in order to negate this effect. their position is that they are doing this to maintain the original specifications of the baseballs, and mlb has ok'd the practice.

loop hit it right on the head, the balls out there shrink and get very tight with the thin air make them fly, also with pitchers they think it will work then it will.

pitchers are head cases and will belive anything, all it does is keep the ball to specs and keeps the seams from going down into the ball which makes it harder for movement and break because the seams are what give you action,a good pitcher will dig at them to make them rise to get better action.

but the balls are just like any where else that rawlings ships, and this just keeps them true before they werenot.

I watched some of the Col - Marlins game on Thurs

I took the Under play (12 runs) partly due to the fact that scattered light rain and nasty cold weather was forecast, plus I didn't count on J Taverez having control problems in the first by walking several batters. In his defense, a ball hit over the left field fence was a pitch that was a low outside pitch that barely made it out and in any other park would have been a routine fly ball. It did start to rain in the late innings which seemed to keep the ball in the park a little more, whereas balls hit the same way earlier in the day were flying into the outfield like a hot air balloon

I took the Under tonight of 10.5 (-115)

I have some stats to make this a decent play if anyone is interested

Maybe someone knows, but the ball may carry more during the day, then at night, i.e., at least I have heard many of the play by play guys say that about certain parks but I'm not sure about Coors Field AM vs. PM.

Bottom line : The ball DID look like it WAS STILL JUICED UP!
This is a trend worth watching but from my angle what they have done doesn't seem to prevent the ball from carrying. . . .

its always going to carry there due to alt. hell when i played in wichita and in az it was like a rocket taking off comparied to fl or north east.

so that part of it you will never get away from, the hotter and dryer it gets the better the ball will carry at all parks.

Thank you all for being the gentlemen and scholars that I expected you would be. It is great to be able to ask the true experts of the game ( The one's who lay down the cold hard cash day in and day out) what the skinny is on a particular subject and to get such a knowledgeable response. Thanks again

Another...

Another...

part of this scenerio is that the ball doesn't move as much..The pitch tends to stay straighter thus the hitter can tee off on it....Curve balls that dont have the bite(or hangers) can be hit a long way regardless of the air..Believe me I know from first-hand experience..Vegas is still leaving a high number out there for the total but the players are catching on thus the number has dropped a few runs last couple nights. I still think its a good play to jump on early..Won with the Under tonight again..

GL to Ya!!!
