I tried to get a jet to Vegas yesterday...no luck. I am stuck here right in the path of the cat (whatever) and for some reason not too concerned. I went through so many including Andrew. There is no gas, so leaving is out of the question, the hotels are full and traffic is crawling on I-75. I am feeling life here is about to go upside down...many will die. Goodbye South Beach and SW Florida where I am now. As for a public shelter...I would rather risk it here. I have apples, nut bars, water, grapes, hummus, cereal and something to ease the stress...ha! Most of my life I wouldn't trade for anything, it has been a real thrill getting to do what I want and to travel everywhere and eat in the best places. This storm may get me...I'm getting pretty old.

Earlier on CNN they interviewed this guy who lives on this boat that looks like it was put together with toothpicks, he had even recruited a homeless man and they are going to "ride it out" on the boat together saying "If the water rises the boat will rise too". No kidding

On St Martin the locals are looting, there are armed gangs going from Hotel to Hotel and Offices looting. the Hotel owners an guests are very scared. There is no police in the streets and some they talked to said let them go. The looters are walking with guns and machetes. Saturday 300 Marines from the Netherlands should arrive but they have orders to get the airport runways free and the harbor accessible for aid. Not for restoring order.
