PAPER: Sen. Kennedy was member of all-male club
Wed Jan 11 2006 22:40:10 ET

Conservative activists aree eager to point out that Sen Ted Kennedy was on shaky ground accusing the Judge Alito of associating with people opposed to the inclusion of women in private institutions, the WASHINGTON TIMES is fronting on Thursday.

The eight-term senator belonged to an all-male social club -- the Owl -- at Harvard University. The Owl refused to admit women until it was forced to do so during the 1980s, according to records kept by the HARVARD CRIMSON, the student newspaper.

A Kennedy spokeswoman said it was an entirely different matter.

"No one can question Senator Kennedy's commitment to equality, justice and civil rights," said Laura Capps. "What he was part of was a social club, not a radical group pushing a radical agenda."

Anyway, she said, even though women were admitted to the university during Mr. Kennedy's tenure, they weren't fully integrated to the campus until much later.

Wouldn't these have been classic answers from Allito per Kennedys questions.

When Kenndey grilled him on "are poilticians above the law."

Allito --No sir and not only presidents but also senaters that come under criminal investigation.
Had I been prosecuter you'd have served 10 to 20 for manslaughter.

Kennedy to Allito--It appears that your constantly changing your views from years ago-how is it possible for ones values to change?

Allito Well sir sometime when we are young we have different idea's and values. I am sure you can understand that--remember when you were caught cheating twice and kicked out of school--I would hope your values have changed since then.

I think it is funny how what you like to do is sort of lump them all together. Teddy Kennedy is a joke at best. If he is the face of the democrats, I think that Republicans are in pretty good shape. If you had actually been watching the hearings themselves instead of listening to liberal talking points you would see that the one and only reason he joined was beause he was offended at ROTC being kicked off campus. The attempts by Dems on the panel to make him seem like a biggot is disgraceful. Did you see how emotional his wife got when Sen. Grahm appoligized to Alito for the way he had been treated during the hearings yesterday?? But, I guess her "act" was just another part of the sinister right wing attempted overtaking of this country.

I saw it when it happened yesterday morning. Specter put Kennedy in his place like he was a 3rd grader and it was hilarious.

Kennedy thinks that because of his last name HE is the most powerful man on this committee and, probably in his dillusional mind, the country. Go have a drink teddy and calm down

Kennedy is a idiot. And a smart man who cant remember joining a white supremacy group just to get a job is smart or ling. He forgot being in the group? He's not that old it was just 20 years ago. He was proud to put it on a job application. And as for the committee as a whole. They leave you lacking. What they have 12 year old kids writing those question. He will get the votes he needs
I just wish he would have had the guts to say I was wrong. It would be refreshing.

Dude you really need to learn a little more before you make ignorant statements. I can see you sitting there watching CNN and listening to franken on Air America telling you that the group he joined was a white supremacy group. The point to which your referring when you say "white supremacy" is very easily explained. CAP didn't want quotas at Princeton just to to have quota's. What is wrong with that?? The group was for Princeton applicants to get into Princeton based on their merits, no matter if the applicant was black, yellow, white, green, or blue. This organization did not want the high standards at Princeton to be diminished. This line of thinking equals biggotry?? As to his lacking some knowledge about this period in his life, I can only say one thing,

IT WAS 25 YEARS AGO, MEMORY MAY BE A LITTLE FOGGY? GEEZ

And on top of that, he didn't even join for that reason. He joined because, HE DIDN'T LIKE ROTC NOT BEING ALLOWED ON CAMPUS.

it seems to me you need to diversify your media intake to understand what is actually going on.

Look, will you guys please get this straight:

When you get your girlfriend pregnant, then worry it will end your marrage and future political career, then decide to drive off a bridge leaving her in the car whil you swim away check into a motel and relax....that is MURDER, not manslaughter.

Teddy Kenndey is the very worst kind of person I can really imagine....it just sickens me that he can call into question the integrity and morals of those 100 times better than him.

What kind of people have we become when this man is sitting in such high office?

Both parties equally have their faults or they wouldn't be in politics. However what gets my goat is some of the proven biggest abusers pointing fingers at others with pompous attitude.

i think it's funny that a guy like kennedy is questioning somebody else's background.....

this is a guy who....

was accused of cheating while he was in school...

killed a girl because he was probably drunk while driving....

cheated on his wife numerous times...

used to go out drininking with his young nephews & was supposed to be in the vicinity when his nephew, william smith was accused of raping a girl....

boy, the people of mass. must be awfully proud to have this "pillar to morality" representing them in washington....

Like I said a answer that made sense form Alito would have been refreshing. I'm heck of a lot older then him and remember ever organization I ever joined and why. For sure if it went on a job application. You better know why you put it there. As for many of those stupid questions asked by many/all. Its the process. Would you rather all of them just kiss his ring. I think he will work out fine. I just hate to watch these guys dodge questions. After all we get enough of that from congress.

The whole thing is a farce. Alito simply answers that he has to keep an open mind and judge on the indivisual case in front of him. Not hard to do. On past organizations he simply doesn't remember. No need to really. And besides he joined it because he was interested in it because they didn't have rotc on campus or he wanted to feed the poor or any other reason that sounds good. If they were a racist or any other type of bad org then he didn't know about that. And above all you must remember that he doesn't remember anything about it! This is a useless group of senators we have on both sides.
