That we should not establish a timetable for withdrawl from Iraq. I think the most important thing to do is be as thorough and complete as possible. We will know when it's time when it gets there. Impossible to know how long that will take ahead of time. We owe it to the troops and Iraqis to complete the mission. Anything less hurts everyone. We should put as many troops there as possible and spare no expense.
The deaths, expense, incomplete info and politics of containment were all reasons to not invade - but that was a long time ago. Really, any arguing about why we went is somewhat a waste of time and energy.
The Bush administration made some bad decisions about Iraq - some Republicans admit this, most from the left like to flaunt it. It really doesn't matter anymore - only thing that matters is to complete the job as best as possible. Hopefully something good will ultimately come from all this. We can go over the bad strategies and massive deficit later.
Timetable simply publicly announces our own exit strategy to the enemy. Not a good idea. Let's crush the enemy first. It really doesn't matter who got us in the mess - the point is the mess itself and how to best clean it and repeat it's mistakes in the future.
