Red Raider (& others),
Chill! I was only giving OU some props....but you know what? I'm taking back what I said....I'm ready to kick some Sooner ass!
I believe that OU's size is their only weakness. They have two very good collegiate post defenders in Jabahri Brown and McGhee. McGhee can score some. Brown is more of an extremely quick defender who scores on garbage points, but mostly disrupts with his quickness. They have nobody else who even closely approximates those two players on the blocks.
Their main strength has to be their multitude of wings and backcourt players. Ere, Price, and White are all extremely quick, who are great at both defending their man and anticipating/jumping into passing lanes, helping out, and making up for any mistakes on defense. All of their players look like gazelles running the court with hungry cheetahs chasing behind. Selby is great off the bench. They work their butt off chasing every loose ball and every rebound.
If Texas can trade fouls in the post with Brown and McGhee, Texas will be in great shape.
Texas is deeper at every position, however, OU is one of the few teams with more quickness than Texas at nearly every position on the floor other than point guard, and it's not like they're slow there.
One guy I can just about guarantee will get into foul trouble quickly is Brian Boddicker. This is a game where he will matchup poorly defensively.
We play defense a lot better than Missouri. Only time will tell if we can go toe to toe with them and shut down their perimeter game the way Missouri did not.
OU is a fucking good team though. They are kind of a bargain basement version of the great UNLV teams of the early 90s. Everyone can run, jump, shoot, and play D. They are deep, they play hard, and they play together. Great coaching job by Sampson and his staff, just as Tark did a great coaching job with his squads.
Our transition D will need to be on its toes. They use lineups where any of the 5 guys they have on the floor will pull up and burn a 23 footer in transition.
Putting pressure on Hollis Price will be the key. I'm not sure they really have anyone else who can orchestrate their offense. Fredie Williams has got quite a challenge ahead of him. i dont think TJ can do it on a regular basis with his defense (and ankle) where it is right now.
It's going to be interesting.
