On the surface this move did not look very good, so leaders on both side run because it's not popular to deal with Arabs and Muslims in the light of day. We broker back room deals with them all the time but politicians will run for their rat holes because the wind is blowing the wrong way. We must remember,it's not about long term solutions and making the tough decisions, and getting the right thing done,it's about keeping their jobs,no matter what. To win the war on terror we need to work with Arabs and Muslims moderates that share our vision. The 911 report commission recommendations stated at the top: WE SHOULD REACH OUT,LISTEN TO,AND WORK WITH OTHER COUNTRIES THAT CAN HELP. We need counterintelligence, we are going to need help from our Arab and Muslims friends to win this war. How can we defeat an enemy we don't understand and can't infiltrate. This might not have been handled the right way but it might not be such a bad deal. It's not going to be Bush and his boys forever, What do the people that care about this country do next?

""This might not have been handled the right way but it might not be such a bad deal. It's not going to be Bush and his boys forever, What do the people that care about this country do next?""

obviously tippy toe around the religion of peace...as our brave bastion of free speech and open thought(the msm) and dialogue hypocritically preech to us...

thank god for the ben stein`s of the world...

""Greeting, fellow Americans. I have some serious news for you about the war against the terrorists, the war we are fighting to protect our liberties and our Constitution against Islamic totalitarianism. We're losing, big time. I don't mean we're losing in Iraq, where our brave men and women are fighting well in difficult conditions and with the home grown doubters at their heels. Nor in Afghanistan, where our men and women in uniform are also fighting brilliantly.

No, we are losing our freedom here at home, and in a particularly nasty way. It has to do with those cartoons mocking Mohammed that were published in a Danish publication and have excited riots and burnings across the Moslem world and fear and terror in Europe.

The problem here is that some students at the University of Illinois' student newspaper thought -- with some reason -- that the cartoons are newsworthy. They published six of them along with a written statement of why the cartoons were offensive. A few Moslem students complained, which surely is their right. The university officials stepped in and the student editors were essentially fired. Yes, because a student publication might cause offense. Imagine that.

That's on top of the fact that despite these cartoons being huge news, not one major paper has reprinted them. Not the fearless Washington Post, not the thorough Wall Street Journal, not any major newspaper of record that I know of. Nor have any of the major networks shown them, as far as I know.

So here's where we are: we have a first amendment guaranteeing freedom of speech and separation of church and state. That means so-called artists can make art of a crucifix soaking in urine and of holy Christian images made of animal dung and no one can stop them. That means bookstores of brick and on-line can sell Mein Kampf and the vilest writings of Hitler's lackeys. These horrible excrescences are protected and the media screams bloody murder if anyone tries to protect the sacred in Christianity and Judaism from the most putrid attacks.

But the media censors itself about the cartoons mocking the prophet of a religion many of whose adherents want to destroy our country and our way of life. We will fight to the death to protect the artists who create Piss Christ, but we'll also fight to the death to protect the feelings of the people who hate us and kill our children. We have surrendered our free expression to people who are at war with us. They kill us in the name of a religion and we bow and scrape to that religion while letting people dump on Christianity and Judaism.

There's a word for this, beyond the words Stockholm Syndrome and the words Political Correctness. The word is cowardice. Or maybe an even shorter word: defeat. Wake up, America. This is serious.""

amen brother.....let em buy up the "Fatwa`s R` Us" chains....or something else less critical than our ports.....

i can`t imagine letting a 7th century culture....still steeped in slavery and ....

are we kidding ourselves?...just look at your t.v...

i don`t care how benevolent the uae seems...i don`t want them in our ports...bin laden connections?....

no big deal....

a thoroughfare for nuclear technology to despots and islamofascists...

who cares...

a non democratic society with no checks and balances....that could change it`s mindset regarding the u.s. via some sort of coup....or because of some perceived insult?....

that a few years down the road...when the heat is off...may not be as concerned about terror as we may be....

forget it..the stakes are to high...

Bush was exposed as a lying incompetent boob pretty early on. Too many people had blinders on though and were in denial or something. Anyone who questioned this man and his motives were labeled anti-American vicious liberals with some kind of agenda to bring down the country. Or worse - they were accused of hating our own troops - the ones willing to do what Bush and Cheney were never willing in their youth.

Finally many good supporters of Bush are being rudely awakened. Incompetent, corrupt, or both. I don't know, but he's really failed the country at almost every level as I see it.

That being said, if Ben Stein ran a major network or paper I guarantee he would not have printed the cartoon out of safety concerns. I do not blame anyone for not showing those once the bloodbath began. We all love free spech, but nobody wants to die for a cartoon. Better to live to see another day and fight for something important.

I'd like to know more info about the Illinois students being fired because of the cartoons. THERE"S GOT to be more to it than that. If they were simply fired for showing them, that's a complete outrage.

Stein is all words, in my opinion. I don't think he's ever been a person to backup his rhetoric. I like him, but I really take his articles with a lot of salt.

I wonder what Stein's view on the port deal is? He's always been a champion of global free market, 3rd world cost cutting, outsourcing, and anything to trim a penny. If he likes the idea of letting a terror-sympathizing Islamic monarchy run our ports for the sake of business, then he has a lot of splanin' to do regarding some of his other patriotic rants.
