Will Texas finally shake the OU jinx this year? They better hope that Simms gets hurt and Vincent Young is as good as advertised. This oughtta be one of the more entertaining years in the Big 12.

Texas: Loaded with talent but add in Chrissy Simms and Mack Brown and they come back to earth a bit.

Oklahoma: Lost some starts on defense but have more in the wings. If they can find a guy that can at least get 3 ypc and get rid of Nate Hybil they can win that league.

Texas Tech: They have a lot coming back and with Kingsbury they might have an outside shot of winning 9 games.

Nebraska: Lots of question marks abound. Hideous new uniforms. Their defense will be the most athletic they have fielded since their NLT Team of 97, but they may have too many holes to fill on offense. New QB Jamaal Lord is very good. Look out for super RSFR RB Marques Simmons who is a legit 4.3 guy with balance and toughness to emerge. They have added a 12th game (Mc Neese State) and are seeking a 13th vs. either Utah, Arizona or N. Carolina in the Black Coaches Classic on Aug 24. Because they add those 2 games the 9 win streak stays intact.

Colorado: They lose a lot of beef on the Oline, but QB Craig Ochs is a keeper. They should have a very solid defense. They play a killer schedule and that could be their undoing.

Kansas State: Big year coming in Manhattan. They have talked of moving QB Ell Roberson to Receiver. Mark Dunn is horrible but they think they can win with him. They have some good young talent on defense. They will win 9 games because of their schedule.

Iowa State: QB Seneca Wallace may be the best QB in the Big 12 North and they return lots of experience. Opening vs. Florida State does not help them out though.

Missouri: Gary Pinkel is making progress fast over there. They are keeping their in state talent. They might be fun to watch next year.

Sidebar:

If Miami can survive their schedule (Florida, Tennessee, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, BC) Just to name a few chalk this team up as the greatest of all time.

Re the QB situation at Texas, Chrissy Simms will be the starter and Vincent Young WILL redshirt. Chance Mock is the backup unless Nordgren beats him out.

Mock is one tough cookie and he's been waiting in the wings of Applewhite and Simms but he has a stronger arm than Simms and is very mobile...I'm as excited about him as I am about Young.

We won't lose to OU next year. :thefinger

Well, we started Spring practice early this year and Aurmon was projected to control the job for the MIKE position at LB. He's the only member of the spring group with any middle linebacking experience. So far, he's been battling Reed Boyd and Eric Hall and reports say that Boyd is looking damn good.

This has to be the best group of freshmen LB's I've ever seen at the 40 acres. Aaron Harris, a prototype middle LB could surprise everyone and if not start, get significant playing time next year a la Derrick Johnson.

The freshman I'm most intrigued about is Michael Williams, who had committed to OU at one point and then changed his mind. He was a DE in HS but is projected as an OLB. He played WR for four years at Lindale which tells you he has some speed.

Watch this clip of him and tell me what you think: #6 on the Blue team

Nebraska's program is pointed in a one-way direction towards mediocrity. You should fire Solich while you still resemble a shadow of your former self.

I am scared this year of Texas. I actually think this year they may beat us. You could put Charlie Brown out there to coach this team and they would win the Big 12. Question is, can coach Mack outcoach Charlie Brown?

freeze, I'm convinced that you have penis envy for Mack Brown. I've never seen anyone in my life talk about him more than you do. Nobody.

What, there's nothing to talk about regarding your one-hit wonder coach? So if we beat you this year, does that mean your coach sucks and ours doesn't? Interested in hearing your comments on that.

There are a lot of coaches that do not have championships and are considered upper-echelon. Stoops had a wonder season, and we are all very happy for you. But I would say that the loss to OSU damages his image just a bit. The magic Stoops worked is almost unheard of. So much, so quickly. Mack is doing it at the pace that is more familiar to most in College FB. To say he is a worthless coach is stupid, and I do not think you are stupid.

Stoops helped rebuild K-States defense from absolute trash to national prominence.....won a national championship with Florida with his defense there -- which Spurrier was failing to do after his ass kicking at the hands of Nebraska.......then goes to Oklahoma and wins a national championship....I blame Stoops for one huge thing.....he failed to recruit a quarterback during his first two years to succeed Heupal....if they had a quarterback worth ten cents, they would have been playing again for the national championship......that is as you are correct Stoops fault

I have coach Brown shoved down my throat here in Texas and all i have seen him do is gather in the best talent in America -- yes gather not recruit -- since almost everyone is from instate.....something coaches have failed to do here since coach Royal......and then Coach Brown goes out and underachieves game in and game out......only a moron would have had Simms in there all year, and replaced the big 12 player of the year with an unproven choker......I don't care if the guy looks like Joe Montana in spring practice.....spring practice is spring practice....

I am an OU fan, but above that a big 12 fan......and would like to see us not be embarrassed by other teams nationally......and only Texas and OU seem to be on course for carrying the torch rigth now and Mack is holding us back

Mack is holding us back?!?

Mack Brown is the only coach to have won at least nine games for six straight years active in college football today. I am so glad Mack underachieved to a top 5 finish.

I guess losing to a 3-7, one win conference team AT HOME is the sign of a championship calibur team. C'mon freeze, both teams had the chance last year and lost it. Claiming that it's Mack's fault for blowing it, then you'd better lay some of that blame on God Stoops for not bringing the BXII another NC. Hell, why not blame Solich? He was coaching in the Rose Bowl, remember?

You live in Texas, what do you expect to hear? Talks about Stoops? Maybe we can get a collection together and rent you a deisel rig that can take your oversized load back to the land of milk and honey.

Quit being a hypocrite.

Actually, I think OSU is holding the Sooners back, not Mack Brown. Wasn't it Bob Stoops' defense that let the mighty Cowboys score a winning touchdown late in the 4th quarter in ther own freakin' house?

If we underachieve and end up number 5 in the nation, everbody must be scared shitless of what might happen if we actually start to achieve.

If you ever wanted to do a case study in the value of suggestion and the power of repeating something over and over until it is believed, just look at the way people write and speak of the Longhorns and Mack Brown. The "never wins big games" crap and "he has had the best recruiting classes in the country for 8 years now" and "he underachieves game in and game out" and "he is a bad coach" bullshit can all be easily refuted. However, he has been labeled and every moron in the country will repeat it without even knowing the facts or what he has actually accomplished since he has been at UT. This is why marketing works - people are basically dumbfuhks.

Nebraska is not heading toward Mediocrity.

I don't think that a 42-9 record, 2 BCS Bowls, playing for 1 National Title are the signs of a program in that territory.

I have great respect for OU, but what did their record say about them last year? I believe that they lost to a atrocious team in OSU and struggled to beat Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl???

Lets see if Stoops can do this over the long haul. He has done a remarkable job so far but I think that you are taking an unwarranted stab at Nebraska.

I suppose programs like Florida State, Tennessee, and Florida are all heading under mediocrity too because they all lost more than 1 game last year as well and did not win their respective conferences.

Dr. Tom set the bar very high between 93-96 and it was one of the great runs in College football history...
