MB, this is no laughing matter. If you haven't noticed, people are getting killed left and right in the D.C. area.

The Canadian they hired is an expert in "geographic profiling". He had a highly publicized case where he was able to pinpoint a serial killer's house within about 2 blocks. He tries to determine where the suspect lives from the location of his crimes.

Some think he was just lucky and the "science" behind his work is shady. It seems to boil down to "people like to do their crimes CLOSE to where they live because they're familiar with the area, but not TOO CLOSE so they won't be easily recognized." Regardless, any profile that was drawn up early when all of the killings were in the rockville area are now out the window.

And, TTM$$$ -- They've received THOUSANDS of "tips" they have to sort through, waste manpower on, and then trash. These cops are busy, and are getting "tips" from people who have determined geographic patterns, time patterns, and even psychics. They've requested that such "tips" stop being sent to them. I'm sure your intentions are good, but its not like they don't have experts working on these things.

As far as his sniping abilities -- again, he might not be military, but head shots in a stressful atmosphere with concealment and escape on your mind can't be easy. These victims aren't running zig-zags but even loading something in your car requires a certain degree of movement.

The other thing -- just because a professional sniper can make difficult shots, doesn't mean he'd pass up easier ones. That is, just because this guy is shooting from 100 yards doesn't mean he couldn't hit someone from 500 yards.

So, maybe he's some kid who's been shooting pepsi cans in his backyard for a couple years, but its probably not smart to rule out that he could be something more.

Do not believe he has ever shot on a weekend. Maybe he works Saturday and Sunday. Or who he/she lives with is around much more on the weekend. Someone knows who this is but just has not put it togeather yet. They need to get who ever fast.

He hasn't shot on the weekend, but that might mean he works during the week as delivery man/contractor/salesman and does it then.

Or he just doesn't do it on weekends to throw people off, or he just likes to watch football, or he's a priest.

Everything about the case can be construed in so many ways. I think that's part of why its difficult to get him. Until someone sees a man pull a trigger, get in a vehicle and get the tag number, he's probably going to be tough to nab. or she.

Since they mentioned the white van, everytime someone gets shot people look up and start seeing white vans. Newsflash: they're EVERYWHERE. I counted 40 on my half hour drive the other day. I look out my window and 30 seconds doesn't go by that I don't see one.

They're concerned that the white van became a kind of self fulfilling prophecy that hasn't helped and might have hurt the case.

When they get him, I'm not going to be surprised at anything. Everyone in the media is convinced that he LOVES the media coverage, and loves being called "sniper". Of course the media says that -- they love themselves. Maybe this guy just reads the comics and does the crossword every day, like me.

Oh, my bad, time for $$, I didn't realize that you were an expert in the field of profiling. Based on this new information, it is now my opinion that your email that you sent will be regarded as utmost importance by the officials. It will leapfrog the other 1.3 million emails from every wannabe detective from 9 nations.

Please point out to me where I mentioned that!

Hey, Einstein.........DC has one of the highest murder rates in the country, and has been up there for years. But, you just keep reading those Yahoo! headlines, and keep chiming in.

This guy is not a military person. There are hundreds of book on shooting accurately and many more on subjects like hiding, concealing objects etc. He's shooting from 250 minus yards with a 223, or that's what they think. 223's are heavy guns and often used for long-range shooting. They have a heavy stock and barrel, and they shoot small .90 grain bullets. Notice he's shot once except two times he shot twice. Since this gun doesn't have much recoil he is more than likely able to shoot and then get sight back on to the victim to see if they were hit or not. From what I here about the little boy who was shot in the back and survived leads me to believe that he's not using ballistic tip bullets which could have saved this boys life and the other woman who survived. I think the guy is possibly on some religous kick. He's probably twisted a religion aroung and a few verses and became some missionary or something.

I just heard that cops are telling people to shop in the evening and late at night. I wouldn't be surprised if he shoots someone at night. By the way, if this happens, I'm not the guy.

Jdh which bullet manufacturer makes a 90 grain bullet for a 223? the heaviest I am familiar with is a 70 grain semi-spitzer soft point by Speer. This caliber will take out a ground hog at 400 yards easily. I don't think we have been told all they know, but that is OK as the press tells too much before the crime is solved IMHO.

my mistake. i don't know why i put 90 grain. that gun will take out salamander on a stick at 400 yards. that's a damn good shot. the press has actually been doing well in not releasing too much info. that's my opinion.

This guy is a complete coward. Taking lives from hundreds of yards away. Must not have much of a job, either. The frequency of the attacks leads me to believe he loves the attention he is getting, but the irony is that he can't 'claim' tha attention he so richly desires!

He will step up the brashness of his attacks, shoting a police officer, or other authority figure, in the near future. Ultimately....it will be his own 'need to be caught', that catches him. (He can't get the desired acclaim until he is caught.)

Or maybe I just watch too much tv!:D
