i dont post as when i post i lose.... so i lurk and follow but i have a question that i am hoping someone can answer definitively....

Is it possible for an NFL team to win by 9 in OT? Team A gets the ball first and kicks a FG. then Team A either pick six or fumble six etc. does the TD by team A count?

I have looked at the official rules and it is not clear. I understand that most likely the intercepting team would fall down but what i am trying to figure out is: is it possible? i am not asking if it is likely or what should a team do etc. simply, is it possible? I think i remember once an announcer or a thread or something.... i heard that as soon as the other team takes possession the game is over and therefore it is impossible for a team to win by 9 in OT...

thanks for anyone who can answer definitively!

I've wondered the same .. NCAA can win by 13.. It's happened before in the PAC 12 a long time ago

but what if team A kicks a FG.

Team B throws an interception to team A and Team A runs it back or Team B fumbles in the endzone and Team A recovers- does team A win by 9?

i would say yes

The point after try is not attempted if the game ends on a touchdown.

I would have to believe yes you could win by 9. No way would the NFL stop a pick 6 in action or a fumble return for a TD while it was going on. The play would continue until it was over.

that seems to be what most say and believe and i agree that makes sense at first- but that brings the other question- if the ball is still alive while the interceptor is running and he gets stripped and team B recovers then doesn't that result in team B getting two possessions? i.e. possession on the kick off and possession after team A intercepted then fumbled? This supports the idea that the game is over immediately upon the change of possession and the resulting score would not count but again... looking for some sort of confirmation. i dont care which i just am really curious now!!

In college, you can only win by 8 points maximum in CFB now.

If team A scores in OT and team B turns the ball over with possession by team A, the game is immediately over.

The rules changed....
