NC State baseball team is out of the World Series due to the virus. Yesterday 2 players had tested positive. Players who were vaccinated were not tested prior to that news. 13 players were available for the game. Evidently there was no mandatory vaccinations for all of the players which I believe was a mistake. After the game they tested even the vaccinated players prior to today?s game. I am reading on NC State site that 4 vaccinated players are now testing positive and game is canceled. Something doesn?t add up. Yes the whole team {except for players who already had the virus]should have been vaccinated but if this is accurate , how can 4 vaccinated players now get the virus?

My understanding is even if you are vaccinated you can catch Covid but there is less chance of it being severe or death....Not 100%

Be interesting to see what happens to Vandy since they had close contact with the NC St. players as well...Do they now have to quarantine for 14 days....:shrug:

I believe there are 36 players on the roster.I would think all 36 got to go experience the Omaha World Series.
If so then 23 were held out of yesterday?s game. You would think the NCAA would have a rule that you have to be vaccinated to participate in a college sport.

i am so pissed i can barely type. i know this is a sensitive topic in this situation it seems to simple to talk about.i know you cant make people get vaccinated but you can damn well tell them they cant travel with the team unless you vaccinate. a national championship means millions for the program and a huge boost in recruiting. the players who might have starred in the series would gain draft positions and make millions more. This can't be left to kids, and certainly not to avent because, god bless him, he made bleed wolfpack red but hes a bonehead. this is squarely on the athletic dept qnd someone should be fired.

Im not positive, but i believe you dont have to test after casual contact if you've been vaccinated if you are not displaying symptoms. im presuming thats why no issues with vandy, who we've now played twice, because theyve all been vaccinated

My son had to get vaccinated in order to return to college in Boston. I hate it for the players and fans. Have had 10 people here watching and rooting for the Pack. They had the Jimmy V magic going until this happened.

30k fans in the stands don't need to be vaccinated but the players do?

And some that were already vaccinated still tested positive?

I find it hard to believe they couldn't field a team today and that 25+ tested positive.

More ridiculous lies and #science

I put almost all of the blame on the NC State sports department . Not sure we will ever get an honest answer but I am reading that the State players were tested negative on Thursday but the Vandy coach asked they be tested again on Friday. There wasn?t time to do the test so only the 13 vaccinated players were cleared to play Friday?s game. You would think the NCAA would have clear and consistent rules for all teams concerning Covid.

I read it was 4 vaccinated that popped positive and the four unvaccinated tested were negative  Who the hell knows?why is there COVID protocol anyway? The people who are vulnerable should be vaxxed by now, wear a mask if you are still scared or stay the hell home

was having a conversation with some friends about this - there is a vaxx available, either get it or don?t and let?s move on - everyone in this country of a certain age has access to the vaccine, why are we still acting like we have to protect everyone?

there?s 23,000 fans in the stands for heaven?s sake - why should anyone have to deal with antiquated covid rules at this point?

vaxx is out, get it or don?t and leave everyone else alone and maybe at some point people can start trying to get along again

kids at all level of sport have been participating for well over a year in sane areas of the country, well before the vaxx became available - we really don?t need any more ?policing? by the ncaa or nfl or anyone else for that matter

Red States = sane

I know someone that lives in Oregon and her kids have to wear masks while playing sports, that is just cruel

Time to move on, do we stop playing sports for the flu?

not sure how it breaks down by state - my state has a democratic governor and to me he has done about as good a job as possible under the circumstances - he has walked the line in a very moderate way - i bleed neither red nor blue but simply like when the highest levels of common sense are applied to every single issue across the board

sorry to clutter up thread loophole, really sucks for the boys and the school - not sure i agree that all players should have been forced to vaxx, but just a really shitty situation no matter how you slice it up

Read on the Wolfpack forum than many of the unvaccinated players had already had the virus and I believe the rule is that for 90 days you don?t have to get revaccinated. Not sure what is true but there is consensus that the 90 days had elapsed for some of the players. Don?t care for the Vandy coach even before this. My question is if your whole team has been vaccinated and you are playing outdoors then why would you even care if other team is vaccinated? Are you really worried your catcher will get the virus while behind the plate or your second baseman may get it turning a double play?

not sure about the thing with the vandy coach as its hard for me to believe that an opposing coach could trigger an opponents testing. if so thats fucked up. my understanding of the protocol is that all unvaccinated players get tested every 48 hours. if someone unvaccinated tests positive then contact tracing kicks in and everyone in a positive persons contact tree gets tested, even if vaccinated. if so, that tells me all vandy people are vaccinated, as apparently they dont have to be tested. if they did, at least one of the vaccinated players would most likely test positive. lets face facts, there are plenty of vaccinated people who have been exposed and have virus present in there bodies, just not enough to make them sick. the trick is to vaccinate everybody on your team and avoid testing.

all that is a byproduct of the politicization of the vaccination issue, instead of ir just being a public health issue. that why dinosaur elliot avent doesnt think the vaccination status of his team (or himself) is a matter that is part of his job description. but look where we are, and look where vandy is ( remember - they played us twice and are still coasting along).

i still say someone in the athletic department should be fired -corrigan would do nicely. there has to be an adult in the room deciding what is best for the TEAM, not what suits their personal politics. that what being part of a team is all about.

It's just plain idiotic that they would be testing these kids without any symptoms anyway. Tough blow for the kids. Work their ass off to get all the way there just to get robbed.
