Watch out! I got my mailbox robbed (outgoing mail) 2 weeks ago. They stole a check I was sending to a charity. Good thing they were stupid, however, and threw down the empty, ripped up envelope, lol! Anyway, I was able to cancel the check, filed a police report, and a postal inspector's report, and I didn't lose any money. However, I don't feel comfortable putting mail in my own mailbox anymore, how sad! Folks that live on busy streets don't seem to have the problem as it's too hard to stop and rifle a mailbox in traffic. I would suggest NEVER putting mail in the box overnight or on a Saturday after the mail has already been delivered.
If u didn't see it, the criminals can VERY EASILY "wash" checks now. There was a special about it on the Discovery Channel, and I'm sure if I did a search on altavista, I could find a webpage that would give me detailed instructions.
