If you could know the unknown

Foregoing your present beliefs about the mysteries of our planet and universe, if you could know the absolute truth behind the events and issues of mystery, what would you want to know before you die?

I came up with a list of around 17, these would be at or near the top three:

1.....Aliens...is the life elsewhere in our universe? Personally I think there could be if only for the fact that we haven't seen every place that is in the universe. Hell, for that matter we haven't discovered everything to know about the earth.
The government and militarys role in cases like Roswell, Kecksburg, PA.....and Rendlesham lead me to believe that SOMETHING important happened at these places. Whether it was govt technology, foreign technology, or alien technology is unknown at least to the public. I don't think the authorities would respond and react as strongly had an ultralight crashed. Also, when documents are released by the freedom of information act, some are so blacked out that they are nearly unreadable or provide little or no information whatsoever. Why all the extensive editing if nothing happened?

2.....Afterlife...What happens after death? Personally I'm undecided....Those of you with more of a religious base would argue what your specific religion suggests. Does it all just turn black, like a sleep state you don't remember....is it a big party or a fiery cookout?

3.....JFK assassination.....Lots of theories abound....certainly there are probably people living that know the truth behind this...if it was just Oswald then maybe not.......but a conspiracy would dictate multiple players, some would still be alive....if they told now then how would they prove thier confessions? Numerous groups had motive to eliminate JFK, from LBJ, mafia,Castro, Russians, CIA and FBI....Personally I feel LBJ had a plausible and viable role in the assassination, with help from one of the other mentioned groups...

A couple of others would be:

4.....D.B. Cooper.....fate of hijacker during flight over pacific northwest circa 1971-ish...jumped from plane along with $200,000....some of the money was found along a riverbank around 1980 which leads me to believe he did not survive....If he did then why leave the money, unless he lost possession of it before touching ground.

5.....Alcatraz escapees....Morris and the Anglin brothers left on a homemade raft to never be seen again....Personally I doubt they made it to shore. Too far and too cold. If they made it invariably they never looked back and didn't look up relatives or friends....or the people who knew them were incredibly loyal and kept thier mouths shut.

What would be on your list.....Maybe your own thoughts about the outcomes????

My dad caught a foul ball at a Cubs game when I was in 2nd grade. I took it to school for show and tell and somebody stole it out of my desk. I sure would like to know who took it. :cursin: I know it is nothing but sentimental value, but it sure pisses me off to this day.

If I could know that a certain girl I met 6 years ago really did love me, I would be married right now, which answers if I would be stupid enough to take that plunge. :)

Without question, it would be about the afterlife, and if there is one. With all the horrible things in this world and several bad things that have happened to me in my personal life and those close to me, I have a very difficult time believing in God despite having been raised in a Christian family. Check that, I have a hard time believing in a God that has any sort of control of what happens on Earth. My PERSONAL feeling is that, if there is a God, he/she/it is simply responsible for creating the world, and has absolutely no control over what happens on it. Which leads to my question... is there an afterlife, and does your conduct in this life actually effect you status in it if there is one? Since it's a question that is truly impossible to answer before dying, that is one thing I would really, really like to know if I could know any one thing.

(Please, please, please don't start any sort of religious debate over this... its just my personal thoughts)

Interesting topic.

bjfinste, you sound like a deist. There were many famous Americans like Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin among that lot. Deism was a very popular belief at one point.

Religon and politics are discussions I refrain from most often, especially online, but I thought to share in this case.

I don't have a question about the afterlife.

JFK, aliens, DB Cooper, would be cool to know the answers there. Was there an Atlantis? How the heck did the ancient Egyptians build the pyramids? What is behind all the mystery in the Bermuda triangle? Does Bigfoot/yetti/sasquatch exist? How about the Loch Ness Monster?

Those questions asked, I think I would rather have information that could help me now such as:

1) What stock is going to go up 1000% in the next year?
2) What 30-1 and greater longshots are going to win at the track this week?
3) Who is going to win the World Series and Superbowl?
4) What is my opponent holding in online Texas Hold-em games?
5) What number is the roulette ball going to land on in the next spin?
6) Where should I place my deer stand to be able to kill that B&C 200 inch plus buck I have on my property?
7) How can I make 500K a year dicking around on the computer so I don't have to work?

How about some humanitarian answers?

1) How can we cure cancer?
2) How can the Muslims be convinced to quit blowing up chit?
3) Where is Osama bin Laden?

65, I think if you can answer your questions 3-4, you'll have the answer to no. 7.

GM.....interesting thought when you said about how many family members were never born because your grandfathers brother was killed at age 18 during WWI.....

I have often wondered about wars and the people killed within those conflicts and wondered what life would be like had those people lived.....would a killer disease be cured because a scientist was able to live out his entire life and come to the conclusion of his life studies....not that this scenario would all be good....considering how many millions died one could also say that a few serial killers missed living on earth also....

I have often looked at old photographs or seen footage from old football games or baseball games where the crowd in the stands are shown.....Am I the only one here that looks at these photos and videos and wonders how many people shown here are still alive??? Not to be a grim freak but I have often wondered that.....if the people who were dead disappeared from the photo or video then who would be left on the photo and who would we see left in the stands???

Marco--going on that thought... my mother's fiance was killed in Vietnam when he was 20, so I would not be here without that war. Very interesting thought if you ask me.

Great thread.

I'd want to know what the founding fathers were really thinking when they put this country together, and what they would think of it today.

congratulations scott,

but marco, seriously, that's pretty deep. I was thinking something more along the lines of why do I always have one extra sock left over on laundry day. That's a mystery to me. :D

I am not JS Smooth, Mr. ctownguy, but I will glady tell you where I live. If you have a problem with JS that is fine with me, but I am not him and he is not me. So get your facts straight before you spout your mouth off. Your ignorance is showing.
