EVANSVILLE, Ind. -
University of Evansville basketball player Adam Seitz (Otwell, Indiana/Pike Central) may miss the remainder of the season after suffering a knee injury in Saturday's game at Bradley. Seitz sustained a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee early in the second half Saturday, and is expected to be out three to five weeks. The first round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament begins March 1.
Seitz is Evansville's third leading scorer with a 9.4 average, and is second on the team in steals with 18. The senior guard/forward has started all 18 games since returning in December from a broken jaw, sustained during a scrimmage against IUPUI in November. Seitz is the 24th leading scorer in Purple Aces' history with 1,155 points.
Seitz is a much better player than this year's numbers. The injury has limited him all year, which is one reason the team is so down this year. Missing him doesn't affect the team as much as if he had been healthy all year, but it does hurt.
Dan Lytle, their 6-10 center is healthy again. He's an excellent big man in a conference with very few of them. He's started less than half the team's conference games. When he's in, they are very competitive. Recent win at home against N. Iowa was a good sign that they haven't thrown in the towel.
from the local rag in Normal Ill.:
Richardson admits Lytle causes the Redbirds' matchup problems.
"I'm not sure we have anyone who can guard him," said Richardson. "And (6-6 Ian) Hanavan is a tough matchup for us because he plays on the perimeter all the time.
"He's a pretty good shooter and driver. Hanavan, being out on the floor, creates problems because Boo (Bojang) is not used to running over the top of screens and getting down on shot fakes. Hanavan will present those issues for him."
Richardson also said tonight's game marks the beginning of a key five-game stretch.
"We want to position ourselves well for the conference tournament," said Richardson, whose team is in third place. "We have three of our last five on the road, so it's not going to be easy."
After tonight, ISU plays host to league leader Southern Illinois, then plays at Wichita State and Northern Iowa before returning home to conclude the regular season against Evansville.
Facing SIU in next game, maybe a look-ahead.
There are all kinds of reasons not to take ISU tonight. With all that being said, Rice and Bojang are probably the best players on the court. I'd have to go with ISU.
