OK, Jack is starting threads about his favorite salad dressings, we need some new topics. How about the latest cardinal baseball news...

La Russa gets a one-year contract extension and announces he is firing Hal McRae as Cardinal's hitting coach and bringing in old Mark McGwire. Bad move, tony. I think this guy has lost all credibility and he is in for some major booing from the Cardinal fans. McGwire told congress he was all about educating the children on the evils of steroid use. He used that as a shield basically -- on the advice of his lawyers -- yet he never stepped foot in a school or youth program to follow through.

I would be more likely to take a let's move on attitude if he would be a man and skip a day on the golf course to do what he said he was going to do. Educate the younsters. Maybe he was starting with the caddies. He would gather all his country club's caddies on the putting green and utter his famous quote again. The same nugget of wisdom he revealed to congress in March 2005, when a congressman asked McGwire what his message would be as an anti-steroid spokesman:

"Steroids is bad. Don't do 'em."
