He didn't return my call....wanted to put a decent size bet on the unders on the Louiville game. Doesn't matter what his line would have been, I know this game is gonna go waaaaay under. If this game does in fact go under, I am gonna kick my bookie in the nuts....

What exactly is the status of these 'offshore accounts'? You would think that it is totally legit since alot of people in this country use them, but then sometimes I read articles about how it is illegal to use the internet to place bets, etc. I know the bookie I use is totally illegal, but at least it doesn't leave a paper trail like an online account would (credit card#, checking accout#, etc.) If I can get a guarantee that online wagering is totally legal I would defintely sign up for one.

What kind of book are you dealing with? Doesen't he have a cell where you can reach him?

Obviously I am dealing with a small time bookie. I called his cell phone and left a message but I guess he was too busy to return my call. This guy has a regular full time job and takes in bets on the side. In fact, these guys are so small-time that they don't even accept 2nd half bets, moneyline bets, or other sports like baseball, hockey, etc. I really should look into an online account but I need to do more research regarding the legality of the whole thing.

online wagering is totally illegal. Just as illegal as a bookie for the most part. But when you can't get bets in with your bookie you have to think about your situation.

So online wagering is illegal? :com: Wow, then it's a good thing I never signed up for one! I like the fact that online gambling sites offer flexibility of bets and convenience/easy access, but I guess you have to take the risk of getting caught. I don't like the fact that you have to use a credit card or checking account, because that will kill any chance of trying to bet anonymously. It is probably safer to use an illegal bookie, but you face the risk of not being able to contact him in time to put plays in, etc.

I hate you, bookie.

I have an idea. I'm going to pick another game tomorrow and bet an amount that I would have won today and if I lose, I won't pay that sonovabitch! (Those guys are so small time that if that were to happen the worst that could happen is that they would refuse to take any more bets from me in the future. And maybe that would be a good thing....I've lost so much fking money in my life betting on football that most people would have killed themselves already!!!!)

So. Cal
here's how small time mine is..

i might be the only one betting thru him + half the time he just tells me to visit a website to get the lines of the games i like and leave my bets with the lines on his voice mail.

"hi, i'll take new england +44 over miami for 10k, talk to you later"

My "local" is all via VM. Lines are updated on a 800 number every 30 minutes or so. Everything is time stamped. No reason for the guy to actually have to talk to you unless he is going to jack the numbers on you.

:mj07: Can you also place a bet for me at New England +44? And make mine a double :mj07:

Yeah, that's a good point. The strange thing is he never tells me where they get their lines from. They usually don't give out their lines until a day before the games, maybe to ensure they will have the most current lines. I am taking a risk putting bets through these kinds of people, but he is the only bookie I know and I am reluctant to open up an online account.

Of course, with my luck, Brady will get knocked out of the game on the first play, the backup will throw 5 INTs (4 returned for TDs) and the Dolphins will win 49-3.

Isn't it illegal to bet online? If so, how do you guys get away with it? Do you use a fake name or something? That still would be hard to do, since you need a credit card or checking account to play. I still don't fully understand how online betting works. It sounds like it is totally illegal, but yet many people are doing it. My questions would be: 1. how hard are the authorities cracking down on online gamblers and 2. what are the penalties for those who get caught? That would suck if I lost bets online only to get caught and slapped with a $10,000 fine + jailtime!
