Go to ESPN's homepage, click on the college football link, then click on the link titled, "Utah's Coach Questions Referee's Allegiance." Very interesting read!

How can you be a referee for your own alma matter? That is crazy? If I was Utah's coach I would have made the biggest scene in the history of college football before that game even started.

It's obvious that none of you watched the game.

The ref he was berating was the head ref of the game and not the sideline ref involved in the play. Coming from a UA alum the play could have gone either way, in-bounds vs out of bounds and that's after watching the replay 10 times. However from where the sideline official was, he made the correct call. Honestly if I had to decide I'd call him out-of-bounds as well.

Intersting though that McBride didn't mention that his player CLEARLY fumbled 2 plays earlier and the UA recovered. Game over right??? No! Where was the homer UA ref in that case since they ruled the running back down?????????

As for the NCAA/Pac-10 they have been doing this for years, using local refs in conferences so as to save on travel costs.

Total sour grapes coming from a guy who I use to respect and was a former UA coach. He should apologize to the ref for questioning his integrity and accept the fact that his team was totally outplayed-outcoached and should have lost, and they did!

you gotta be kidding

you gotta be kidding

that`s not a conflict of interest.....how can you say that with a straight face,,,,how about the az st game vs central florida 2 weeks back....17 penalties called against cent fla...i`d love to go back and see if that`s a pac-10 crew.....i learned a lot here today....how can you let the home team have their own conference refs in an inter-conference game?...the fox is really in the hen house...no wonder they are off to a flying start.

He is being a sore ****ing loser. His team got outplayed & he is crying over a stupid ****ing call that at first glance looked correct & after a few replays it might not have been but they don't have instant replay so what can you do. It sounds like alot of people didn't watch that game as Utah was totally outplayed! Also I'm glad someone mentioned the non fumble call!

You're right, I didn't see the game. Nonetheless, why even put yourself in this position if you're the NCAA? I don't care if the referee was the head referee or the line judge. I don't care if it was the right call or the wrong call. The referee in question is a Arizona University booster. Enough said! I don't know what's worse, this or David Boston's dad being allowed to referee NFC East games a couple of years ago. Unbelievable!

Then every game this Saturday is totally in question because regional refs call games in their area. Some even for teams that they went to school at or are fans of!

Do you think it's a Pac-10 crew or west coast guys working the games at Ohio State? No, most likely it's a bunch of guys from the midwest, probably from Ohio, a quite possibly grads of some Big Ten school or even OSU. Anyone from Ohio is likely a BIG Buckeye fan anyway. Does that make every OSU game tainted???

No!

Refs are human and make errors. To say they are biased implies that they have no integrity. I really don't see the point here. The only true way to do this is for the NCAA to hire 1000 permanent independent refs and fly them all around the country for games. NEVER GONNA HAPPEN! The NFL doesn't even do this, those guys are part timers as well with careers in the real world.

This is ONE coach ranting about sour grapes on an EXTREMELY QUESTIONABLE PLAY regarding a guy who's not even a UA guy. It's not like this was a blatant oversight, non-call, total reversal of the rules screw job. Get over it, Utah should have been blown out by 20 anyway. I'd like to ask Coach McBride if ANY Utah games have ever been officiated by anybody from the state of Utah? If so, I say homerism, blatant biased, totally unfair for the opponent!

i had arizona

i had arizona

but, forget the gambling angle...it is stupid and improper to have an arizona booster as the head ref in an arizona game....also think it was a pac-10 crew that called 17 penalties on cent fla vs az st...that`s like janet reno investigating clinton..that`s why they try to appoint an independent council...what do you expect to happen...just don`t bet against pac-10 teams in non-conference home games...the independents and smaller conferences have 2 strikes against them going in....facts are facts.

Facts are Facts. Nobody wants to hear them in this story.

The Ref in question is NOT AN ARIZONA BOOSTER. He did graduate from Arizona 30 some years ago and has been a ref forever. If he's a UA alum wouldn't that affect his judgement in every Pac-10 game he officiated UA or not?????
Plus he wasn't involved in the play in question.

Again you can find this scenario in almost every game this Saturday: a ref with rooting ties, graduation ties or living ties to a game/team he's working.
