Seems like the long speech in foul weather did him in.........

William Henry Harrison
Inaugural Address
Thursday, March 4, 1841

President Harrison has the dual distinction among all the Presidents of giving the longest inaugural speech and of serving the shortest term of office. Known to the public as "Old Tippecanoe," the former general of the Indian campaigns delivered an hour-and-forty-five-minute speech in a snowstorm. The oath of office was administered on the East Portico of the Capitol by Chief Justice Roger Taney. The 68-year-old President stood outside for the entire proceeding, greeted crowds of well-wishers at the White House later that day, and attended several celebrations that evening. One month later he died of pneumonia.

Nice work Cie......sounds like I am going to have bring my 'A' game to stump some of you guys.

I think its safe to say that W.H.H. final grade as president is an 'incomplete'

Ok....next question......which president was chased out of the White House because the post innauguaration celebration got so rowdy, chaotic and out of hand.

Here's a couple of hints: It has nothing to do W's coke habit or Bubba's intern habit. :mj07:

Just a few more facts on this one.....he was the first president to arrive in the capital via train for his innauguaration......and, his speech was estimated to be more than 8,500 words.

A March snowstorm? Didn't those fools back in the 19th century know about global warming? Sheesh!

So, let me guess: All the cheerleaders are glued to their sets and all the gwb apologists must be drinking their sorrows away:shrug:

Pretty quiet so far in my trivia thread.

Ok, there is still a question out there, but I will throw another one up on the wall.

Martin Van Buren was sworn in in March of 1837. What was unique about him as it related to all of the other presidents who came before him?

Is it Grant or Jackson?

Sorry, would have responded faster, but my internet connection has been funky today.

I blame Bush.....wait a second, now I blame Obama.....at this exact moment, who do I blame for this all chit, I am soooo confused:shrug:

Anyway, not sure about Grant.

But, yes, the answer I am looking for is Andrew Jackson.

He was the first non east coaster and first frontier man to be elected. His election, not unlike this year's, brought a huge sruge in the electorate and excitement for his elevation to the highest office.

He wanted to do an informal meet and greet at the White House after his speech, but the crowds proved way too heavy. It was like a Frat Party and he had to escape and go stay in a nearby hotel at night. White House staffers, in an attempt to lure people out of the White House, brought ice cream and wine outside to the front lawn. It did not work.

It is claimed that even thought the WH was trashed the next day, Jackson arrive anyway and went right to work.
