Tulane junior starting wideout Roydell Williams will miss the remainder of the season due to a broken bone in his left ankle. Williams, who had surgery last night to repair the ankle, had suffered the injury late in the fourth quarter of Saturday?s 24-20 loss to East Carolina when a Pirate defender fell on the back of Williams? leg. Last season, Williams led C-USA in touchdown catches with 11 while catching 56 passes for 886 yards. This season, he was also a preseason all-conference selection and had already made 15 catches for 151 yards and a touchdown.
UAB sophomore starting linebacker Gaylon Black is lost for the season after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee during last Saturday?s loss to Pittsburgh. The Blazers have now lost three starters in three games to season-ending injuries. Senior defensive tackle Marvin Nickson and offensive tackle Barker White also went down with knee injuries. Sophomore Darrius Taylor will take Black?s place at linebacker, while senior Derrick Bush will be the backup.
IDAHO TE Anderson & DLman Parra are out for season with knee injuries.
PITTSBURGH Starting NT Young will miss rest of season after breaking his ankle vs. Texas A&M. According to coaches, move of Young from LB to NT in 2001 was part of reason why Panthers were able to turn their season around and earn bowl bid.
TROY STATE Trojans have already lost starting CBs F. White & Reed, as well as starting RB Richardson, for season with injuries.
