Inside The Boxscores ? Week 6

Louisville 26 ? Florida St. 20

A very even game statistically as the rain caused things to be slowed down some. There were surprisingly no fumbles and only one interception by each team. Louisville missed a few early chances to score, including a blocked punt that was recovered at the one-yard line, but they failed to get any points out of it.

Texas Tech 49 ? New Mexico 0

The Raiders out gained the Lobos 585-195 and had 25 more first downs. New Mexico took a hit for the rest of the year with the loss of QB Casey Kelly due to a fractured forearm.

Cincinnati 35 ? Temple 22

Temple had a 22-21 lead but Gino Guidugli produced another 4th quarter comeback to get the win. The Bearcats forced three Temple punts in the 4th quarter and scored on drives of 99 and 47 yards.

Duke 43 ? Navy 17

Duke scored 40 unanswered points as turnovers hurt Navy for the second consecutive week. The Blue Devils scored 14 points off turnovers and could have been worse, but they fumbled twice in Navy territory after getting the ball from Midshipmen miscues.

West Virginia 37 ? Easy Carolina 17

West Virginia out gained the Pirates 569-272 and had 11 more first downs. They started the game by fumbling at the East Carolina 20 yard line, which was returned for a touchdown, but then ran off 27 unanswered points to put the game away. Avon Cobourne rushed for 260 yards and two TD?s.

Ohio St. 45 ? Indiana 17

The Buckeyes held Indiana to 56 yards rushing on 28 carries while rushing for 244 yards themselves. After Indiana cut the lead to 14-10 in the 2nd quarter, Ohio St. responded with 31 unanswered points before giving up a late touchdown.

Michigan St. 39 ? Northwestern 24

The two teams combined for 1,016 total yards, as the Northwestern defense once again could not stop an opposing offense. Michigan St. returned a punt 88 yards for a touchdown and capitalized on one of the Wildcat fumbles for another touchdown.

Iowa 42 ? Penn St. 35

Iowa blew a 22-point 4th quarter lead but was able to stop Penn St. at the 5-yard line in overtime to pick up the win. The Hawkeyes scored 14 points off turnovers and returned a Penn St. PAT attempt for two points. The Hawkeyes stiff run defense held Penn St. to 54 yards on 27 attempts.

Michigan 45 ? Illinois 28

Illinois out gained Michigan 543-415 and had 9 more first downs but committed 5 costly turnovers, leading to 24 Wolverine points. The score could have been even worse, but Michigan fumbled at the Illinois 13 late in the 4th quarter, which Illinois turned into their final touchdown.

Southern Miss 27 ? Army 6

Army had 90 more yards than Southern Miss but 6 interceptions killed any chance of an upset. Turnovers have been the story for Army all year. Army had the ball inside the Eagles' 34-yard line four times in the first half but came away with only two field goals.

Air Force 30 ? Utah 26

Utah had a 26-6 lead at halftime but Air Force held the Utes to 27 second half yards and four turnovers. The Falcons were able to convert those turnovers into 17 second half points and then scored the winning TD with 17 seconds remaining to pull out the come from behind win.

Florida 41 ? Kentucky 34

The Gators had 14 more first downs and had a 500-264 yard advantage. Kentucky ran 2 kicks back for touchdowns, and scored another 21 points off a fumble, turnover on downs and a blocked punt.

LSU 31 ? Mississippi St. 13

LSU only managed 350 yards of offense but held Mississippi St. to 250 yards and picked off three Bulldog passes in the second half. The Tigers returned a punt 78 yards in the 1st quarter to give them the early lead.

Georgia Tech 21 ? North Carolina 13

The Yellow Jackets held North Carolina to 286 yards total offense and held them scoreless in the second half. In the 3rd quarter, the Tar Heels fumbled in the Georgia Tech endzone, which would have given them the lead. Georgia Tech responded by driving 80 yards to put them up by 8.

Iowa St. 36 ? Nebraska 14

The Cyclones held Nebraska to only 9 first downs 267 total yards. Nebraska committed 5 turnovers and scored their first touchdown on a 90-yard pass play.

Texas 49 ? Tulane 0

Texas only had a 14-0 halftime lead and only gained 369 yards of offense in the game. The Longhorns scored touchdowns on a punt return and a blocked field goal return and their other scoring drives were only 27, 48, 44, 13 and 45 yards long. The defense played strong once again, holding Tulane to 215 yards total offense.

Auburn 37 ? Syracuse 34

Auburn racked up 500 yards of offense while holding Syracuse to 321 yards. The Orangemen built a 17-0 lead thanks in part to an Auburn fumble that led to a field goal, an 85-yard punt return and a 68-yard run. Auburn put up the next 24 points before Syracuse scored the tying TD with 15 seconds left to put the game into overtime.

Arizona St. 65 - Stanford 24

Stanford committed 7 turnovers and surprisingly, the Sun Devils only scored 16 points off of them. Andrew Walter threw for 414 yards and 5 touchdowns for Arizona St. Typical PAC-10 game with 41 points scored in the 1st quarter.

Colorado St. 32 - Nevada 28

The Rams tallied 531 yards of total offense and scored the game winner with 2:43 left in the game. Nevada only committed two turnovers, but the first one was costly, leading to a Colorado St. touchdown.

Washington St. 48 ? Cal 38

The Cougars piled up 578 yards of offense averaging 8 yards per play. Taking out the punt return TD, Washington St. averaged 74 yards on their other five touchdown drives. On the other side, Cal averaged 75 yards on their five touchdown drives, showing that neither team could do much defensively.

Purdue 28 ? Minnesota 15

Minnesota was held to just three field goals until they got a late 4th quarter touchdown. Purdue took the lead for good on a 23-yard interception return for a TD. The Boilermakers capitalized both Gopher turnovers into 14 points.

USC 22 ? Oregon St. 0

USC held the Beavers to 131 yards and only 8 first downs. Of the 15 drives by Oregon St., excluding the two that ended the half and the game, 12 totaled 4 plays or less. The Beavers didn?t help things much by committing 12 penalties for 116 yards.

Virginia 38 - Wake Forest 34

Wake Forest blew a 17-point lead twice as Virginia scored the last 21 points to pull out the win. The Deacons had 11 more first downs and almost 100 more total yards but Virginia gained over half of their yards on their final three touchdown drives.

South Carolina 20 ? Vanderbilt 14

The Gamecocks out yarded Vandy 405-249 and had 11 more first downs but only won the game by 6. They had to settle for two short field goals on drives over five minutes long and also missed a 41-yard field goal on a drive that took almost six minutes. Vandy was only able to put two drives together that were more than 6 plays and both resulted in touchdowns.

Tennessee 35 ? Rutgers 14

After a slow start, the Vols dominated the second half with 28 points and holding Rutgers to 68 yards in half number two. Rutgers took the opening kickoff back for a touchdown and actually led the game at halftime 14-7. The Scarlet Knights ended up with one more first down and held the ball for more than 15 minutes longer than Tennessee.

UAB 31 ? Memphis 17

A very even game statistically, but UAB had two fumble returns for touchdowns and scored 21 points off of four Memphis turnovers. Only 3 points were scored in the second half.

Kansas 43 ? Tulsa 33

Kansas gained 523 yards of offense and took advantage of the two Tulsa turnovers by scoring two TD?s off of them. Kansas scored touchdowns on six consecutive possessions between the 1st and 3rd quarters erasing a 13-0 Tulsa lead.

Alabama 30 ? Arkansas 12

The Tide dominated with 545 yards of offense and set the tone by scoring on their first play of the game. They forced Arkansas to punt on their first four possessions while taking a 17-0 lead.

Texas A&M 31 - Louisiana Tech 3

The Aggies forced 11 punts and only gave up a 25-yard field goal. Luke McGown was held 201 yards passing while being sacked four times. The Bulldogs were penalized 11 times for 126 yards.

Fresno St. 31 - Rice 28

Rice had 10 more first downs and the total yards were even but Fresno St. scored on a 77-yard TD pass with 3:12 remaining to pull out the win. Rice averaged 4.6 ypc while gaining 329 yards on the ground.

San Jose St. 58 ? UTEP 24

The Spartans only out gained UTEP by 49 yards and had only one more first down but used six turnovers in blowing out the Miners. They returned a kickoff for a touchdown after UTEP cut the lead to 4 points leading the way to 30 unanswered points.

UCLA 43 - San Diego St. 7

UCLA blocked a punt for a touchdown and scored 14 points off the Aztecs first two turnovers and never looked back. Adam Hall was held to only 182 yards passing after 2 straight 500+ yards games through the air.

Boston College 43 - Central Michigan 0

BC held Central Michigan to 242 yards and 12 first downs while gaining 525 yards themselves. The Chippewas 1st quarter possessions were two fumbles, a missed field goal and a loss on downs. They gained half of their yardage in the 1st quarter but hurt themselves and never recovered.

Pittsburgh 37 ? Toledo 19

The Panthers only out gained the Rockets by 80 yards and only had two more first downs but got 14 points off turnovers. Toledo fumbled twice, once deep in Pitt territory and once deep in their own territory, got intercepted deep in Pitt territory and turned the ball over on downs in the 2nd quarter deep in Pitt territory. They squandered many opportunities that could have won the game.

Ball St. 24 ? Connecticut 21

The Huskies out gained Ball St. by over 100 yards but an interception by the Cardinals set up their last touchdown in the 3rd quarter. The Huskies used a 95-yard, 15 play drive to tie the game but missed a 37-yard field goal in overtime that would have tied the game.

Virginia Tech 30 - Western Michigan 0

Western Michigan looked competitive on the stat sheet, only getting out gained by 70 yards and only trailed 3-0 late in the 2nd quarter. The Hokies then scored with 1:41 left in the quarter, Western Michigan fumbled two plays later and Virginia Tech returned it for a touchdown.

Georgia 41 - New Mexico St. 10

The Bulldogs had only 1 more first down and 24 more yards than the Aggies but a 27-point 2nd quarter blew the game open. Bad punting and penalties hurt New Mexico St. as they held the ball for over 22 more minutes than Georgia.

Northern Illinois 13 ? Kent 6

There were 469 yards rushing between the two teams that kept that clock running and the score low. Kent was a combined 2-17 on third and fourth down.

Washington 41 ? Idaho 27

The Huskies moved the ball without problems as they gained 567 yards and held the ball for over 38 minutes. They didn?t get the ball into the endzone offensively until the 2nd quarter due to a fumble and a missed field goal so the score could have been worse.

Miami Ohio 48 ? Akron 31

Akron out gained Miami 462-371 and had 11 more first downs but Miami scored the last 14 points to pull away. The Redhawks scored on a fumble recovery and a big pass play in the third quarter.

Missouri 44 - Troy St. 7

The Trojans committed five turnovers and besides their touchdown, they only crossed midfield twice. Missouri out rushed Troy St. 277-69 and if not for 10 penalties, they could have done more damage.

Ohio 34 ? Buffalo 32

The Bobcats picked up their first win of the year by gaining 505 yards of offense and kicking a 37-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining. Ohio blew a 19-point 3rd quarter lead but were able to move the ball 67 yards in the last four minutes to pull out the win.

Oklahoma 31 - South Florida 14

South Florida had more first downs, 89 more yards and held the ball longer but punted on 12 of their first 15 possessions and committed turnovers on the other three and those three turnovers led to 21 Sooner points. They scored their only two touchdowns within the last two minutes of the 4th quarter. Oklahoma only had 239 yards of offense.

Boise St. Utah St.

Boise St. gained 554 yards of offense as they blew out the Aggies. Utah St. was held to 1.9 ypc.

Arizona 14 - North Texas 9

North Texas gained 431 yards of offense but only got 9 points. They were stopped on 4th down at the Arizona 1-yard line, missed a 36-yard field goal, fumbled at their own 20-yard line and fumbled at the Arizona 13-yard line. Arizona missed four field goals of 23, 26, 32 and 45 yards.
