Been waiting for Doug Tewell to have a week off. His 21st and 19th places before last weeks holiday I put down to tiredness. He is no spring chicken and should have had a rest instead of slipping in a Worldcom PGA tour event. The rest and 12/1 v 10/1 narrowly gives him the nod ahead of Dana Quigley. (see LPGA thread for staking plan)

Outright plays (2 units):

Doug Tewell to win 12/1 e.w. @ Bet365
Short price, but many of the Tour's elite are missing this week and Tewell has won twice this season already. A little off the pace in the last two events, he avoided the adverse weather of last week and should be fresh for this event. Every chance of improving on his 6th place last year.

Jim Thorpe to win 20/1 e.w. @ Stan James [5 places]
Thorpe finished just ahead of Tewell last year and was also 12th in the first event played at Jasna Polana. Decent enough course form to expect the same this year. Should play well again this week as long as the weather is fine. He won the Tradition three weeks ago and has played well since only to be frustrated by poor weather each week.

Tom Jenkins to win 20/1 e.w. @ Bet365 or Surrey
Not quite a course specialist in the mould of Gil Morgan who has won the two events staged on this course, but has finished 2nd and 4th instead, is available at a better price and is in the better current form. Ignoring last week's finish in the weather-shortened TD Waterhouse Championship, Jenkins has finished in the top-15 in each of his last six events. Very consistent, but also because he is very consistent at finishing outside the lead, the five places at Bet365 and Surrey are preferred to the better odds, but four places, at Centrebet.

Chances of Tewell and Quigley are well respected but a little too short, so have gone for;

Walter Hall - got 100/1 which was very pleasing as 33 was the general price

Jim Thorpe - 22/1 - as short as 14 elsewhere, events have conspired against him in the last couple of weeks

Rodger Davis - a speculative 50/1...has looked better in last couple of weeks...has the talent to win on this tour, but has just messed about so far

Great story - noted that Morris Hatalsky had got a place as alternate, so phoned Stan James to ask for a price. Got a girl operator who must have been training as everything I asked her, a chap answered for her and then she relayed it to me. Having asked for the price, the guy telling her what to do told her to tell me 200/1 as that was the quote for the outsiders.

Trying not to sound surprised I asked for ?50 each way (wish I'd only asked for a fiver), at which point there was a pause and they put me on hold. About 3 mins later they came back and said they weren't sure that they could lay the 200 as they needed the price confirmed by the compiler, who was not available. I was asked to phone back later that evening when the guy would be on duty.

Anyway, at the correct time I phoned back to be told no price was available and neither was the golf guy. I then complained to a supervisor who said that he would call me back. To their credit, they did phone back, after contacting the compiler (who was apparently on the course!) and offered me 50/!.........

It does illustrate a point about Stan James who claim to be 24 hour bookmakers, and who only dabble in Senior and LPGA tours and don't seem to be prepared to cover them properly. Another plot foiled!!

Clive,
Showing your inexperience there.... in those situations you should always just go for a maximum ?10 ew.... and then once that is confirmed... as if an afterthought.... "I'll tell you what I'll have another ?40 ew"...... and see how the land lies with that knowing the first is secure as they never take back one that's laid... re your story... you didn't say if you took any 50/1 ???

Stan James no longer seem to post LPGA & Senior prices on their website... I complained about it this week and suggest others do the same.

Nope, managed to resist that!

Thorpe looking ok at the moment, but Quigley looking a threat...did have a little saver on Jacobs at 18, but not quite enough if the others get blown out!

All I need to do now is give up on Euro and PGA tours and I could make a decent profit.

C'mon the Nets...oops, wrong thread!

rare in-running bet for me

Canizares is four back and avavilable at 66 with Centrebet...have loaded the place option a little more than the win...seems a generous price when you consider they have Irwin as the 7/4 fav who is also at -3

Final update: 1-2; -4.00 units

Tewell 21st
Thorpe 8th
Jenkins 5th

Wow! Thorpe led the event after 18 and 36 holes, but shoots 75 including a bogey on the par-5 last hole which he had previously birdied and eagled to fall out of a top-5 spot. Jenkins did finish 5th, but as he shared with two others, but it was enough to only return the stake. Surprisingly poor return on this event.
