As the holiday season approaches we are all too familiar with the phrase, "You better watch out"! Well this Saturday, the LSU Tigers better take heed. Although LSU occupies the No. 4 spot in the latest BCS standings, the Tigers are ranked No. 3 in the AP Poll. What's the big deal you ask? Since Michigan took its No. 3 ranking in the AP Poll to Eugene, Oregon back on September 20th to play the Oregon Ducks, being ranked No. 3 in the AP Poll has been somewhat of a JINX! You don't believe in jinxes? The Wolverines lost that Saturday to Oregon 31-27 as seven-point favorites! The following Saturday, 3rd-ranked USC (a 13.5-point favorite) lost at Cal in triple overtime, 34-31. Ohio State took USC's place at No. 3 in the AP Poll but the Buckeyes had a bye week. They were not so lucky the following week as the 3rd-ranked Buckeyes traveled to Camp Randall on October 11th and as a 2.5-point favorite lost to Wisconsin 17-10, ending the nation's longest current winning streak at 19 games! Virginia Tech rose to the No.3 position after Ohio State's loss but did not play that week. They did however play the next week, getting an early start to the week with a Wednesday night (visit to Morgantown, West Virginia on 10/22). The Hokies (14-point favorites) lost to West Virginia that night, 28-7! USC found itself back in the No.3 spot after the Hokies loss and that next Saturday (11/1), beat Washington State, 43-16, putting a stop to the jinx...for one week! Last Saturday, Florida State entered the weekend's action as the AP's No. 3 ranked team and promptly got EMBARRASSED by Clemson, losing 26-10 as a 17-point favorite. Which leads us to LSU's visit this Saturday to Tuscaloosa. The Tigers rose to No. 3 in the most recent AP Poll, the school's highest ranking since November 27, 1961. Now I KNOW, that people from Louisiana, DON'T believe in JINXES!!
